Introducing

Yu-Ling Positive Health Exercise for the Public Housing community By: Sunny Qiu Mobile Phone: 0433 705 268 Email: sunny@yu-ling.com

1. The exercise: It is a unique exercise founded by Master Hewey through his own experiences in life. He discovered first time about the strength and usefulness of this exercise in 1973 when he was 25 years old. It miraculously helped him to get rid of his migraine suffering since he was a young boy. Since then he had come across many other difficulties in life due to sicknesses or as a result of making wrong decisions in life, but it is the Yu-Ling spirit and exercise that helped him to live on strongly with positive attitudes and good health by relying on his own efforts more than on prescription medication. This exercise was first introduced to the public at the end of 1999, however, the literature covering its basic full contents was finally written in 2003. It is a very simple exercise combining the technique of Tai-Chi, Qi-Kung and Meditation, the wisdom of ancient Chinese philosophies, the power of Positive thinking etc. etc. It might sound serious, but is fun way to learn and easy to practise. You can do it anytime and anywhere whenever suits you and the environment is convenient for you to do so.

2. Residents in public housing: As I personally have been living in public housing for many years, I do understand the environment and the people of public housing estates. There are a variety of problems existed in housing estates that the government is willing to work together with tenants to get rid of. Just for the tenants ourselves, among us we have

people with all sorts of problems such as in health, drug addiction, gambling, family violence etc. In teaching our Yu-Ling exercise, we not only help the students to modify their health, we also can modify their attitudes, so that their behaviour would change toward the right direction. For examples, through the teaching of Yu-Ling, we may change someones behaviour to stop throwing rubbish in the public areas or to stop doing any more graffiti; a person may become less violent/ upset/agitated/annoyed/greedy after understanding Ying and Yang philosophy through studying our course. And would become more tolerable and humble instead, etc. etc.

3. Our Governments (Local, State and Federal): They all have responsibilities for the public housing estates and their residents. According to my knowledge, all levels of government have always tried hard to improve liveability for the estates as well as for the residents. A lot of money and effort has been spent, most of the people but a few do appreciate it, and however things need to be done continually for further improvement all the time. For example, the image of public housing, if you go to visit Kensington housing estate you can see a total different approach when compared to estates like Fitzroy, Richmond, Carlton , Flemington etc. Even in matters of security issues, say in Fitzroy the housing authority had spent a lot of money to update its security system, yet it is not being fully utilised. Housing authorities are still looking into better measurements together with the residents and others agencies concerned. That is where we can do our part to chip in, using our efforts and special knowledge to work together with the government, residents and other agencies concerned. Yu-Ling is not only about good health, positive attitude, happiness, endurance etc. it is also an education for practising the right things for yourself, your family, your friends, your society, your country and the world.

4. Our Vision: After attending the meeting, organised by Fitzroy public housing on 25 July 2011, on the subject of Social Enterprise, presented by Nick Wallberg from the School of Social Entrepreneur, South Melbourne, I knew that now we are a step closer to achieving our goals of setting up our school based on social justice to benefit the community for good health and well-being, so enabling us to live in happiness and in an improved environment. Also, recently I have the opportunity to visit Melbourne Aboriginal Youth Sport & Recreation in Gertrude St. Fitzroy. We were well received by Glenda (the Manager) and she gave us a guided tour of the gym. If possible I would like to share my ideas of setting up our Yu-Ling school with Glenda.

5. Our Mission (Possible!): a) Helping people to modify their health. b) Helping people to live happily in any situation/condition. c) Help to reduce malicious damage in public properties. d) Creating some jobs. e) Instil to people the spirit of Muhibbah(good friendship/neighbou rhoodship).
