Dear Parent or Guardian: The No Child LeftBehind (NCLB) Act requires that all schools be evaluated annually to determine their individual status in regards to reaching Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) goals. This evaluation is based on the number of students meeting the Idaho State AYP targets in reading, language arts, and mathematics, as well as attendance or graduation rates, and overall participation in statewide assessments. A Title I school that does not meet one or more of the 41 targets, or does not make sufficient progress, for two consecutive years is identified as needing improvement. To be removed from Needs Improvement status, a school must meet AYP for two consecutive years. The followingschool(s) highlighted in red, are identified for improvement:

633 Fremont Avenue~Rupert~Idaho~83350~Telephone (208) 436-4727~Fax (208) 436-6593~Web www.minidokaschools.org

Please be advised that an improvement plan to address critical areas of need as well as effective monitoring will be promptly initiated. The improvement plan will be analyzed and altered in consultation with parents and the school staff, with technical assistance provided by the district office. Parents will have ample opportunities to provide input through our expanded policy on parental involvement, which will further assist students in meeting high academic standards and greater success. In addition, the district is required to notify you of the option to transfer your child to another school that has not been identified for improvement within the district. The district will provide transportation to the new school. Should demand exceed available funds, the district has a prioritization process in place. Priority will be given to students based on educational and financial need. Your child may remain at the new school through its highest grade. The district is only required to provide transportation to the new school for as long as the original school remains in improvement status. Currently, Acequia Elementary, Paul Elementary, and Rupert Elementary are the only available schools to accept transfers. If you are interested in the transfer option, please contact the District Service Center(DSC) and request a form. The completed forms must be returned to the DSC office by the first day of September of each school year. Furthermore, if the school your child is attending is in year two (Y2), or beyond of improvement, your child may also be eligible to receive supplemental education services (SES), or free tutoring. As a result of the federal NCLB Act, your child can receive extra help in math, reading, and language arts. If this is the case, you will be receiving more information in October of this year. This documentserves as the first notification to you, as required by law, that your child s school was identified as a Title I high priority school and of your child s eligibility for Public School Choice (C), or Supplemental Educational Services (SES). If your child s school is identified for Y2 or beyond, and you did not choose to transfer your child under the Public School Choice option, and your family meets the income limits under the law, you may choose the SES free tutoring program that is provided outside of regular school hours. We will have two available windows to sign up for SES: October 17-28, and January 16-27. Our plan governing Public School Choice and Supplemental Educational Services, which includes a list of approved tutoring programs in our area is available on the website, at each school site, or through the district office. The list of providers, which is subject to change as new providers become available, includes a brief description of the services, qualifications, and demonstrated effectiveness of the providers. These programs have been approved by the Idaho State Department of Education and will provide your child with tutoring that should enhance the curriculum being taught within the schools. Please call Sandra Miller at 436-4727 if you have any questions about Public School Choice or Supplemental Education Services. Applications can be found on our district website or by calling the above listed number. Applications for SES are due by October 31stto the Federal Programs office at 310 10th Street, Rupert, Idaho 83350. You will receive a letter from the district by November 7thconfirming or denying your child s eligibility. Educating your child is an important decision. Please consider the options available to you carefully, and contact Sandra Miller with any questions you may have.
