South Africa Ministry Update

At the Westville campus, Cru joined with several other

Always Going August

Christian campus ministries for the Always Going August month-long evangelism initiative. The big vision for this month-long outreach was to train students as well as other Christians in the Durban how to share their faith and to reach 10,000 students with the Gospel through different events and sharing our faith daily. It has been so encouraging to see students commit to this month and share their faith every free moment they have. One of my favorite outreaches was Im all ears. Someone from Cru sat in a chair in the middle of campus with a sign that said Im all ears! We had an empty chair next to us and invited anyone who needed to talk about something to come sit and talk. This was a very effective way to engage in spiritual conversations to share the Gospel and meet many interesting people. Two other large-scale events that took place at Westville were What to wear for great sex (a wedding ring!) and One Question. Wayne, one of the pastors of a student church on campus called His People, came and shared his powerful testimony and the importance of sex in the context of marriage. Goodenough, a staff member of The Bible Talks, a student ministry on campus, shared the Gospel in an open-air outreach and addressed a few of the popular questions students wrote about what they would ask God. Several students accepted Christ from these events and we are trusting God for more to come!

Edgewood

Ministry has picked back up on the Edgewood education campus as students are now in lectures after completing

3 weeks of student-teaching. It has been a challenge to begin a new movement on a campus, but God continues to move and encourage us. The focus this semester is discipleship. We only see this movement growing if spiritual multiplication is taking place. As many of our students are just getting involved with Cru, it seems almost impossible that this ministry will be self-sustaining after we leave this year, but I am fully trusting the Lord that, through His work and power, He will use students to reach their campus despite what the structure of the ministry looks like. We are studying the Essentials of Spiritual Growth and Multiplication in our community groups and pray that students will catch the vision of building spiritual movements everywhere so everyone will know someone who truly follows Jesus. Please pray for my one-on-one discipleship time with my girls-Elise, Teneile, Asiphe, Suji, Shaneece, Derosha, Mbali, and Sne.

Other happenings

Aya, a student studying at Westville, started a Bible study on Saturday

afternoons at Ukukhanya, the AIDS hospice center that we partner with. After orphan camp, God gave Aya the vision to continue investing in the boys he met there. Our students are awesome and their passion to see not only students, but also the city of Durban, know Jesus is incredible! South Africa celebrates many public holidays which includes Womens Day in the month of August. We had a Cru womens picnic at a beautiful park that afternoon and enjoyed each others company, food, and a short devotional from one of our students. It was a sweet time with the women of our ministries.
