First and foremost, I would like to thank my beloved family for their endless support and faith which

always make me strong and confident in doing my work. Without all of them, it would be difficult for me to finish this task appropriately. I would also want to give a bunch of appreciation to my dear lecturer, Pn. Zalilah bt. Mohd. Sulaiman whose encouragement, guidance and support from the initial to the final level enabled me to develop an understanding of the subject. For all her time spent, her incessant guide in helping me all the way through this period of stresses, I am heartily thankful. Without her help, I will not be able to complete this task as it is supposed to. Words alone cannot express the thanks I owe to En. Mohamed b. Che Ree, my husband, for his encouragement and assistance. Last but not least, I offer my regards and blessings to all of those who supported me in any respect during the completion of this task. Thank you.

Yours truly,

RECYCLING SAVES OUR MOTHER NATURE

We are very luckily as we were gifted with beautiful environments and eye catching scenery all around us. But, most of us did not realize that this fine -looking panorama would not last forever if we did not take a good care of it. Pollutions are everywhere, the earth is slowly dying, but humans are still unaware of it. Public awareness can play a vital role in environmental management. When everyone is aware about the importance of keeping the environment well, we can reduce its damages. Damaged to environment is caused by the activities of individuals are not conscious and who do not have adequate knowledge of the environment. For example, when we cut forests on a large scale to get timber and fuel wood or clear land for agriculture, we d amage the environment. Similarly, when we throw liquid or solid wastes into ponds, rivers, lakes or oceans, we damaged the aquatic environment. When pollutions in large quantities are allowed to enter the atmosphere , it leads to air pollution. We may know that unscientific agricultural practices, unplanned industrial process, and even grazing of pastures can damage the environment. There is no doubt that agriculture is essential, grazing of animals is unavoidable, forests have to be harvest for their produce, industries and thermal power plants have to be set up, dams have to be built and automobiles have to run for transporting people and goods. We cannot do away with these. We must admit that there were so many effort placed by the government in order to save our mother nature. One of the most well-known campaigns is recycling. Recycling is the method of using waste materials and reusing it to produce new products. The advantages of recycling are less interruption of nature, less waste in the environment, and less pollution in the area . Recycling our waste products can improve our world into a cleaner and stable place. When recycling, it does not only help our environment, it is also a cheap way to buy new products

The thing that we need to understand is there is no away. When we use something and toss it in the garbage it goes someplace. It is better for it to be recycled and put back into use. If it becomes litter it harms the environment and wildlife and can cause health problems for humans as w ell. If it goes to a landfill it is buried and even if it is biodegradable it will sit in the landfill for decades. The land used for landfill has some specific requirements meant to keep us safe from our garbage. It cannot be near any housing because the landfill attracts many pests and it would be a health hazard to live near a landfill not to mention the odour . It cannot be near any water sources both above and below ground, although most landfills are lined they will eventually leak and all the toxins t hat were put into the landfill will eventually escape and if they reach the water supply it is another serious health danger for all. There are some items like electronics that were too toxic to put into landfills, for decades we shipped them to poor n ations and have contaminated much of their ground water in the process. We have finally taken the initiative to find a way to recycle them and prevent many toxins from being put into the environment and we are recovering a large amount of the precious meta ls that can be reused and reduce the amount of mining required to obtain them.

We have a finite amount of land that meets those requirements and we have to travel further from the cities to find places to put the garbage, eventually we will lose land that we need to grow food to landfills. So, all that being said it helps humans and the earth to do all we can to reduce the amount of garbage we pu t into landfills each day and recycling is a great way to do it. On the whole, recycling importance can be o bserved in many different ways. Some of the great reasons why recycling is important is because recycling saves the earth, saves the energy, helps mitigate global warming and reduce pollution , reduces waste products in landfills. and definitely helps save money. What can we recycle and how can we recycle? Well, it is as easy as 1,2,3! One of the easiest things for us to recycle is the plastic and metal containers which our household foodstuffs come in. The whole lot from our soda cans and bottles to our shampoo bottles can easily be recycled at our local recycling ce nter. By merely
7

washing out our containers, sorting them by type, and taking them t o the local recycling center we can know that we individually help the environment by recycling. We may also find that as a nice additional bonus t he recycling center will pay us for the materials you bring them! The same thing happens when we recycle the old used newspapers and magazines. When we recycle paper, we save trees, which in turn reduces the amount of ca rbon dioxide in Earth's atmosphere and reduce global warming. Trees photosynthesize, where they take in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and give out oxygen. Carbon dioxide is the main reason for global warming as it traps the Sun's heat in Earth's atmosph ere. Despite helping saving the earth, we also get the reward! Therefore, lets start recycling to save our mother nature for the sake of our future.

REFLECTION

Pursuing studies in the higher level has always been a lifetime dream for me. So the chance given was like a token for me to do it diligently. Frankly, I was quite afraid when I received the first English task because I was not so sure how to do it but at the same time, I was excited to try as I know, it is not wrong to be wron g as it is a part of learning process. The task given was to write an expository essay about one of the topics which are health, environment, education, or science and technology. Since I am a naturelover, I did not have to think much of which title to choose. I preferred to write an essay about the environment focusing on how to overcome the pollution problem. Then I started to write down the points that related to environment but I still did not find the one that really impress me. So I started, to read newspapers, magazines and even went through the internet to find more information. After doing some researches I was attracted with the fact that recycling really helps in saving the nature. Most of us took the recycling campaign for granted as we still unaware of the advantages. With recycling, many lives can be saved and our mother nature will stay in a good condition. Thus, I decided to talk about the importance of recycling for the sake of the nature . Hence, the title of my essay was Recycle Saves Our Mother Nature. According to the task given, I need to write an expository essay, prepare a mind map of the topic and need to present the task in the class. Expository essay was not a new thing for me but surely when it comes to the presentation, I really need to put a huge effort on it. Being a teacher is like a bonus for me as all teachers are supposed to be equipped with confidence. But as a matter of fact, English is not my native language so a lot o f practices are needed before I step forward to present. On the whole, I am very grateful that I finally managed to complete this task and I am satisfied with my work. I would like to give a zillion of thanks to my family for their help and endless supports that always keep me strong. They make me believed that nothing is impossible in this world as the saying goes when there is a will, theres a way. Words may never express enough how gratified I am to have

such a helpful lecturer who has helped me a lo t especially in doing this task. Without the all persistent guide, I would never come to this level. Personally, I think this kind of task is very useful especially in helping me to improve my English and my knowledge. I started to do research, and read b ack which I have left all this for a long time. Well, it is true that when we are already have tons of work, assignment can be a burden but somehow the chaos can make our lives more fun!

Polution

Webster's Collegiate Dictionary defines pollution as the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment. There are many types of pollution ranging from air to land. It is a major problem in Florida as well as the entire world. Pollution not only damages the environment, but damages us also. Pollution is the cause of many problems ranging from lung cancer to the greenhouse effect. Though pollution is all among us, we continue to live in our own filth and do nothing to better the environment around us. What is the reason behind this flawed logic? In this paper I will examine the problems and solutions for this issue. Automobiles are definitely the greatest source of pollution. The pollution created by cars is immense. One polluting effect of cars is the heat it creates. This heat makes it unpleasant to be near the car while it is running. The heat produced by cars contributes to the deterioration of the ozone. Another negative effect that automobiles contribute to the environment is the ex haust. The toxic fumes given off as a byproduct of the combustion engine are slowly deteriorating our lungs and our atmosphere. The exhaust is extremely toxic to human beings. But why do we continue to drive these walking time bombs? Some common reasons gi ven are that cars get us places faster and walking or riding a bike would take to much time and energy. Why walk four miles in four hours when you can drive the same miles in four minutes? I agree that we need cars but we should not abuse the right to use them. Do not drive down the road a few blocks to see a friend, walk. One good solution that can help eliminate some of the car pollution is by having more car pools. Studying our owner's manual and using these 10 tips for car care will save the air and hel p cars pass its Smog Check: Check the tire pressure and alignment. Change the oil and filter. Keep it tuned up. Check the emission control devices. Service the engine promptly when warning lights appear. Always refer to the owner's manual and use the oil and fuel recommended by the manufacturer. Change the fuel filter. Change the air filter. Inspect hoses, wiring and belts. Check crankcase breather elements. Since car pollution has such a drastic effect on the environment, we should take every little step possible so that Mother Earth does not have to continue suffering.

Another popular source of waste is the post -consumer market. American citizens throw away millions of tons of garbage each year, and this trash has to go somewhere. While there are projects underway to clean and reuse some of this trash most of it gets dumped into huge landfills. These landfills are disgusting festering blisters on our country's landscape. The following are a few of the disadvantages to a landfill: they are getting more expen sive every year because of required environmental controls and the cost of land. Material in a landfill is so tightly compacted that it degrades very slowly. Runoff from landfills can contribute to groundwater pollution. Recyclable materials buried in a landfill represent a loss of resources. They are becoming increasingly difficult to site, and they take up valuable land that could be used for other purposes or left undeveloped as "open space". Even though people know the negative effects that trash and landfills have on Mother Earth, they continue to consume and throw away more and more in the name of convenience. As they see it, when things get old, throw it away and get a new one. They blame the government for the trash problem, but the truth is that the blame should be placed on them. Some possible solutions to eliminate some of this filth are to not be wasteful and to recycle. The last great source of pollution lies in the businesses. Although not common, businesses have been known to dump their waste products into streams, lakes, and rivers. One example of this is the Stauffer plant that years ago buried toxic materials and is now leaking into the Anclote River. Each time one of these companies pollutes, there are horrible consequences to pay. Mutatio ns, disease carrying water, and the death of plant and animal life have all occurred as a direct result of illegal dumping. It contaminates our drinking water and soil. It causes entire communities of humans and other animals to move on to new places not t o return for at least a century. The pollutants dumped by industry are so concentrated that a single barrel can destroy an entire lake's ecosystem. Not only do companies dump chemicals, but also hot water. This hot water kills most life it comes into conta ct with, but also causes an overgrowth of algae that covers the surface of the lake, or pond, and blocks the light from reaching the bottom. This means the plant life cannot grow. Small bacteria and other microorganisms can't grow causing fish not to be ab le to feed on them thus eventually destroying the ent ire ecosystem.
