ATEC 2320 Introductory Topics in Arts & Technology

Introduces students to the field of Arts and Technology. This section will provide an overview of the Arts & Technology program at UT-Dallas with guest speakers from the faculty and industry representatives to expose students to what the degree has to offer.

REQUIRED TEXTBOOK & MATERIALS None STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVES/OUTCOMES 1. Students will be able to describe, interpret, and analyze new and emerging applications of technology to the arts, communications, entertainment, education, engineering and business. 2. Students will be able to identify key areas in Arts & Technology both at the university and in the industry. GRADING POLICY/ASSIGNMENTS/DUE DATES/EVALUATION The final grade will be evaluated from the following: Attendance Each Class Weekly Quizzes Each Week Group Presentation Once Final Summary Paper Once

Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class in some way, shape, or form. Absences are excused only in the case of illness (doctor's note required) or death in the family. All information must be submitted in writing within one week (or within 24 hours if missing the last day of class). Arriving late and/or leaving early are documented as an unexcused absence unless excused with proper written documentation. Anticipated absences require the student to turn in assignments or complete quizzes before the deadline. Arriving late or early leave is also considered an unexcused absence at the instructors discretion. Weekly Quizzes are 6 questions long covering the topic of the previous week. Each answer is worth 5pts. Only 5 questions are required for a maximum of 25 points awarded per quiz.

Group Presentation. Each student will give 1 presentation over the course of the semester. Presentations are done in groups over the previous weeks topic. Students are scored based Professionalism, creativity, and quality of research. Students will also turn in a 1 page double spaced 12pt Times New Roman font (~250 words) typed summary with 1 inch margins of their presentation and their contribution to the group. Final Summary Paper is due at the end of the semester. This will be a 2-3 page typed 12 pt Times New Roman double spaced paper with 1in margins (~750 words). Write about a new topic of interest for you within Arts and Technology. Explain what created this interest. What you have learned about this interest. What you will do in the future to help develop this interest in this new topic. Students are scored based on the quality and thoroughness of the writing. Late Assignments are not allowed without written permission from instructor.
