Mirinda is a brand of soft drink originally created in Spain, but with global distribution.

The word Mirinda means "admirable, wonderful" inEsperanto. It is available in fruit varieties including orange, grapefruit, apple, strawberry, raspberry, pineapple, banana, passionfruit, lemon, hibiscus , tangerine, and grape flavours. A "citrus" flavour is also available in certain areas of the Middle East. It is part of a beverage area often referred to as the flavour segment, comprising carbonated and noncarbonated fruit-flavoured beverages. The orange flavour of Mirinda now represents the majority of Mirinda sales worldwide following a major repositioning of the brand towards that flavour in the early 1990s. Mirinda is owned by PepsiCo and is primarily commercialised outside North America. It competes with Coca-Cola's Fanta and Dr Pepper Snapple's Orange Crush brand, with flavour brands local to individual countries. As with most soft drinks, Mirinda is available in multiple formulations of flavour, carbonation and sweetener depending on the taste of individual markets.

History
Mirinda was originally produced in Spain. It became available in the United States in late 2003 in bilingual packaging, and initially sold at a reduced price, presumably to become a competitor against Coca-Cola's Fanta brand. Since 2005, Mirinda flavours have largely been sold under the Tropicana Twister Soda brand in the United States except in Guam, where Pepsi began selling it under the Mirinda brand in 2007 (replacing Chamorro Punch Orange). Pepsico also tried to sell Mirinda in Brazil in late 1996 , but the brand was discontinued in 1997 after weak sales, keeping the local brand Sukita under production.

Mirinda campaigns over the years have included the Mirinda Woman campaign in the 1970s and a campaign in the 1994-1996 time frame with a campaign using the tag-line 'The Taste is in Mirinda' with the Blue Man Group. In some markets, including Mexico, the Blue Man Group campaign re-launched Mirinda away from a multi-flavour positioning to a brand solely focused on the orange flavour. The Blue Man Group campaign showed the Blue Man Group competing to drink orange Mirinda and celebrating a successful drink with an open-mouth exclamation of 'Mirindaaaa'. Also in this same country Mirinda launch a campaign with the Pokmon anime series to the children with a promotion of many gadgets with the characters of the manga series.

Mirinda advertising campaigns over the last fifteen years have been handled by Pepsi's stable of creative agencies, including BBDO and J Walter Thompson. Mirinda also regularly introduces special movie-themed editions in Asia. Recent ones included Batman (Blueberry) and Superman (Fruit punch). Mirinda has also recently released a new flavour of drinks called Mirinda creme. They come in three flavours: Mango, Raspberry and Lime.

Pepsi and Mirinda (orange flavour) with Arabic labels (bottled, left to right).

Mirinda is available in most continents of the world with other PepsiCo products. It is also in the Middle Eastern markets, but the name is commonly mispronounced as "Miranda" due to its Arabic spelling. In Italy is knows as Slam. The name "Mirinda" means "wonderful" in Esperanto.[1][2] There is a claim that the original manufacturer of Mirinda, which later sold the brand to PepsiCo, was an Esperanto-speaking individual.[3] An alternative theory behind the brand name links the drink to the town of Mirinda in the north of Qatar. Mirinda's primary formulation is as an artificially flavoured beverage; however, it has been produced in the past with a percentage of fruit

juice, usually due to local tax benefits tied to non-artificial juice ingredients. Mirinda was sold in a distinctive ribbed glass bottle in Australia and parts of Southeast Asia, when originally released there. Mirindas asesinas ("Killer Mirindas") was the first short film of the Spanish filmmaker lex de la Iglesia.

flavour except - orange.I liked Mirinda for its lovely orangee

flavour that leaves you instantly feeling pleasant and light.

Mirinda was originally introduced as an orange soft drink.Recently, it has added several other flavours in the market like pineapple, apple, kiwi, strawberry, raspberry and peach. But none of them beat the original taste of the orange flavour.

I still remember the TV ad of the three bald orange men...who keep hunting for the Mirinda drink...and finally they find it to just gulp it down.

The taste of Mirinda Orange is unbeatable.

It is one of the most refreshing drinks I have ever had. There is nothing likea chilled can of Mirinda. It is cool and quenches your thirst completely. The taste of Mirinda does not bite the tongue unlike that of Coke and Pepsi. Coke and Pepsi is very strong to taste and they are well known for thier harmful effects on teeth. But Mirinda is softer and milder to the tongue.I can finish a whole can of Mirinda but I have to share coke with someone else.

I have noticed that only those people chose mirinda who are very sober & serene in nature...like elderly ladies or pregnant women or people like me!

Where as the real cool dude types will choose coke or pepsi.I rarely find any guy chosing mirinda over pepsi or coke.

A piece of information for your knowledge: Miranda was also the name of a beautiful, modest and tender girl in Shakespeares famous play called THE TEMPEST. She was untouched and the only being that could approach her was a super natural creature called Ariel(ring a bell???)

All kids should be given mirinda to drink but I see many toddlers drinking coke and pepsi instead. In the long run coke and pepsi are harmful for growing children and health in general.

Mirinda is not known for such adverse side effects.

On the basis of the data collected and the tests conducted I have arrived at the followingconclusions:With the help of correlation I was able to identify the attributes that consumers associate with thevarious fruit drinks and which in turn drive their purchase decision for the same. For example Tropicana is associated with health and enjoyment whereas Appy is associated withsocialising. These reflect the perceptions of the various fruit drinks in the mind of the consumers. The crosstab between purchase frequency and SKU showed that those purchasing smaller SKUs purchase more frequently as compared to those who purchased a 500ml or 1litre. On the other hand there is no impact of gender on purchasing frequency for fruit drinks. There is a high association between the channels preferred and the factors affecting thesechannels. The most important factor came out to be location or nearness of the channel. There is also a high association between purchase frequency and reasons for consuming fruitdrinks such as refreshment and fulfilling basic thirst. In factor analysis I found out 5 factors which mainly have an impact on the purchase of a fruitdrink. There were two factors which did not have any significant impact. Also, I found out that the most preferred channel for purchase in retail stores. The most preferredSKU is 200ml packs which could be due to convenience. The most preferred drink is Frooti followed by Tropicana and Real.

The factors recognized after the factor analysis are as under: Factor 1: Health and Hygiene 1. Packet cleanliness 2.Nutrition Value 3.Expiry Date Factor 2: Media Influence 1.Promotion Schemes 2.BrandValue 3.AD Frequency Factor 3: Convenience 1.Range of flavors 2.Availability Factor 4: Product Features 1.Price 2.Flavor Factor 5: PackageDesign 1.Visual Packaging Attributes those were not important: 1.Brand Ambassador 2.Quantity Available

The perceptual maps show the mapping of different factors in the minds of the customersand the association between them. The data was reduced from many attributes to 5factors that have similar attributes.

The various factors mapped according to the rotated results of factor analysis. The factorswere given names based on the attributes in them. These factors were used to form thefactor analysis where two factors were mapped on X and Y axis to know the relation between them.

The factors help the company to know how the product is currently mapped in thecustomers mind. If a target consumer is focused upon then the factors can be changedand a different map can be formed.

Theattributebrand ambassador and package sizes available are not a ma jorattribute in any of thefactors . This justifies the fact that almost all the major fruitdrinks are not endorsed by any of the big brand ambassador barring a few such as minutemaid pulpy orange (Nikhil Chinappa ) . Also the variety of the package sizes available isnot affecting the consumer decision while making a purchase for fruit drinks.
