News 1: Title: First Solar Hybrid Power Plant Opens in Israel Date: June 11, 2009 Category: Solar energy and power system Website: Treehugger Photo:

Description: A system, Solar Flower that is the combination of solar power and a hybrid micro-turbine has been installed in Kibbutz Samar in Israel and it produces electricity 24 hours without connecting to a grid. Since the solar power is sufficient in Israel, the desert country, Solar Flower produces sufficient solar energy to 70 homes as test subjects in the city. Description: Researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have discovered that a type of bacteria, originally found in 1987 in the Potomac River, could be the key to developing nonchemical based, all-natural nanotechnology. The bacterium, geobacter sulfurreducens could lead to non-toxic biosensors, solid-state electron that work in tandem with biological systems and this new discovery is a paradigm shift in biology which shows the ability of protein filaments to conduct electrons. The part of the catalyst that cranks out 100,000 molecules of hydrogen gas a second packs electrons into chemical bonds between hydrogen atoms, possibly hijacked from water. (Credit: PNNL Description:

Looking to nature for their muse, researchers have used a common protein to guide the design of a material that can make energy-storing hydrogen gas. The synthetic material works 10 times faster than the original protein found in water-dwelling microbes, the researchers report in the August 12 issue of the journal Science, clocking in at 100,000 molecules of hydrogen gas every second.

Ontario's electricity market generated over $29 million in July by exporting electricity to other states and provinces, bringing total net export revenues to over $191 million this year. This revenue helps Ontario: Keep costs down for families Build and maintain a clean, reliable and modern electricity system
