EF Zhengzhou Observation Training A Notes (Transcribed) 1. 11:12; I'm late, and I disrupt the class. Sorry, .

Monday Morning, 11:12 11:44

2. is presenting the Halloween vocabulary and doing awesome comprehension checks. Unfortunately, the kids haven't been separated into groups, and no standards for behavior are being followed. Students are yelling out answers, and half of those answers are in Chinese. 3. 11:14; seriously, these are great comprehension checks. 4. 11:15; the students start speaking whenever there's a pause in 's lesson. , I'd use body language or a chant or drill to focus the students as a group. The local teachers clearly aren't going to be any help, and the students need to calm down. 5. 11:21; three students come in late. Is this normal? 6. , I've seen at least eight of our current and former students in these two classes, and the teachers seem pretty laid-back. Why aren't we coming here more often? 7. , I'd probably use more controlled speech for this group. They answer questions well, and they're eager to participate, but their behavior isn't there. 8. 11:24; there are a few children complaining that they haven't gotten the chance to participate. I wouldn't play games with one or two participants for more than one or two rounds. Most games can be modified to involve the entire group. 9. 11:25; Simba is standing up, yelling "Let me try!", and stomping his feet. 10. 11:32; "Let me try!" is way out of control. The local teachers are choosing students to participate. 11. 11:36; is playing a group activity which is really fun. I'm going to steal this. (Note: Now, on Thursday, I can't remember what it was. ?) 12. 11:40; is handing books out, and no one listens to . A local teacher tries and fails at restoring order. yells over the local teacher - don't do that. 13. , if this promotion is important, then everyone needs to understand that and everyone needs to share the same goals. The local teachers are giving us their classrooms and trusting us with their students and parents. We need to make our visit as comfortable as possible for them. When we visit a school, the teachers are comparing us to every other training school that visits them. 14. 11:43; students are rushing to the front of the classroom. The local teacher tells them to give their papers to the foreign teacher. Where is ? 15. 11:44; said something, but I can't hear her. Suggestions A. and aren't teachers, and they are not able to help control the classroom. , try your best to control the students with body language and incentives (stars on the board or stickers). B. ; instructions from you and to the students need to be absolutely clear. In both this and 's class, students began blowing up balloons and running to the front of the room. Cheers, Renato
