Events and Outreach Intern Port-au-Prince - Haiti

Organizational Overview: Peace Dividend Trust (PDT) is a non-profit social enterprise that tests and scales new ideas that improve the impact and efficiency of aid and peacekeeping. Operating in Timor-Leste, Haiti, Afghanistan, and Liberia, PDT has redirected over $1 billion in international spending into these local economies and created the first ever mission startup guide for the launch of new U.N. peacekeeping operations. Position Overview: The Events and Outreach Intern will support PDTs Marketplace Project in Haiti. The intern will gain valuable work experience by working closely with our team on the award winning Peace Dividend Marketplace project. The intern will be responsible for planning, coordinating and promoting events that are directed at engaging and raising the level of economic activity between buyers and local entrepreneurs operating in Haiti. Responsibilities: Coordinate and plan events i.e. buyer outreach events, matchmaking events etc. Promote events using conventional media outlets i.e. print, radio, advertisements etc. Support the Communications Manager in maintaining PDTs social media tools i.e. Facebook and Twitter by posting interesting content on upcoming events, hosting discussions and developing networking opportunities Oversee the Haiti Marketplace website, ensuring up-to-date and engaging content Support the overall organizational communication and branding strategy and be responsible for consistent messaging Identify and propose new opportunities/ event concepts for promoting Buy Local - Haiti First initiatives by bringing together buyers and local entrepreneurs

Core Competencies: Detail oriented, enthusiastic, and possesses strong initiative Interest in international development and familiar with development issues Strong time management skills and attention to detail Entrepreneurial personality and a creative problem solver who is adaptable to emerging demands and can identify new opportunities

Qualifications: Bilingual - Ability to work in French and English. This will be tested Bachelors degree in any discipline or currently enrolled at an Undergraduate institution Proficient in basic social media Facebook, Twitter, Blogs and Tumblr Excellent writer and communicator with demonstrated proof Event planning experience (Ideal but not required)

Internship Start Date and Duration This position begins the first week of September and continues until mid-December 2011. Work Hours Able to commit to 35 hours per week. Reporting Lines The Intern will report to the Communications Manager in Haiti and will be functionally managed by the Director of Communications in New York. Compensation This is an unpaid internship. Peace Dividend Trust works hard to provide interns with meaningful work experience and follows up with support in assisting interns in finding regular employment.
