Worksheet Answer

Activity 1 1. velocity

0 time
Acceleration = gradient of velocity-time graph 2.

Velocity/ ms-1 3.2

0 2
Acceleration = gradient =

Time / s

3.2 = 1.6 ms-2 2 1 2 3.2 = 3.2 m 2

Distance travelled = area under the graph = Activity 2 3. (i)

Velocity /ms-1 15

t = time to reach the maximum height From : gradient = acceleration due to gravity 15 9.81 = t t = 1.53 s Time to fall back to ground = 2t = 3.06 s (ii) Maximum height attained = distance travelled for the upwards motion = area under the graph for upwards motion 1 = 1.53 15 2 = 11.5 m

4.

Velocity /ms-1 20 v 0 t

10 m

Time / s

Distance travelled = area under the graph 1 10 = (20 + v) t 2 But gradient = acceleration due to gravity 20 v = 9.81 t Substituting (2) into (1) 10 = 1 (20 + 20 9.81t ) t 2 9.81t2 40t + 20 = 0
