VTOL Hybrid-Engined Small Suborbital Space Plane (Cassiopeia AKTF5) The Beginning, SAMTTAJ (Sekolah Agama Menengah Tinggi

Tengku Ampuan Jemaah) Our design, Cassiopeia AKTF5 is a small suborbital space plane with vertical take-off and landing capability. It has an aerodynamic clean design and equipped with a hybrid propulsion system, consisting of a jet (turbo fan) and rocket engines. Passenger capacity is 3 passengers including the pilot. At levels above 95km, the plane can operate on auto-pilot. Our space plane uses a single turbo fan engine with two outlets at the rear ending with vectoring nozzles. This design allocates two vectoring nozzles, which are directed downwards for vertical motion and rearwards for horizontal motion of the space plane during jetpowered flight. The turbo fan is connected to a lift fan via a shaft. The shaft appears at the front of the turbo fan and runs through a gearbox before arriving at the lift fan. The gearbox is to engage and disengage the lift fan to and from the turbo-fan. The lift fan will be functioning during vertical jet flight only. The lift fan is located at the centreline of the space plane towards the front section, directly rear of the cabin. This fan is to produce a lift force and together with the 2 vectoring nozzles, provide the VTOL (vertical take-off & landing) capability of the space plane. There is a smart computer, which balances the thrusts from the lift fan and the vectoring nozzles when in operation to provide smooth hovering or vertical motion of the space craft. The air vent is located on both sides of the plane. The hot air collected from the air vent acts as the propulsion force. The viewing window is located at the front dorsal of the plane and has a 180 vision plane. The landing wheels are retractable and can be used for emergency landings. The space plane hovers upwards until it reaches the height of 1 km and then will fly conventionally using its turbo fan (jet-powered upward horizontal flight) until 15 km altitude. Then it deactivates its jet engine and ignites its rocket engine and climbs vertically to space. The space plane has a single rocket propulsion system with limited fuel and oxidizer which will be depleted at 50 km altitude. However, the space plane will continue its vertical climb until it reaches slightly above 80 km from sea level due to its momentum. The space plane then dives back towards Earth due to gravity and glides downwards unpowered. The parachute is located underneath the space plane and it acts in emergencies such as burned engines, and also lift fan and vectoring nozzles malfunctions. When the space plane reaches the altitude of 15 km, it reignites its turbofan to continue descending safely and later lands vertically using its lift fan and vectoring nozzles from the height of 1 km. The cabin, which accommodates the passengers and pilot is located at the front end of the spaceplane, and the seats are positioned in such a way to provide maximum viewing to the passengers and pilot whose viewing are also aided by personal high-definition monitors attached to their suborbital suits. The passengers' seats are also equipped with a smart seat belt system, which enables the passengers to float in zero gravity without being dangerously released totally from their seats. This short lasting zero gravity exists when the spaceplane is at its zenith, when its momentum is being cancelled by the gravity. The seat belts will automatically pull and safely strap the passengers to their seats when gravity is detected. However, if an emergency occurs, a parachute will be released. Our design therefore satisfies the requirement of being safe, economical and a fun suborbital spaceplane
