Plagiarism and other unfair practices are a problem for international students. Plagiarism is an important concern for international students because of the nature of their study and impact of plagiarised work. Whether it is done from lack of knowledge or with the intention to cheat, plagiarism is a serious academic offence and international student are the worse sufferer of this practice. In common international students means student who are migrated in different countries due to higher studies. And as a part of their higher study they need to do lots of course work and back ground readings that covers no specific border. All knowledge is built from previous knowledge and through reading, studying, performing experiments, and gathering perspectives, people actually draw based on other people's ideas. Building on previous and proven ideas and experiences, people create their own idea. But distinguishing between the building block ideas borrowed from other people and some ones own newly reasoned perspectives or conclusions is needed. And here question for plagiarism arises. A general idea about plagiarism is copying another's work, or borrowing someone else's original ideas. But terms like "copying" and "borrowing" is not sufficient to describe plagiarism as an offence. According to the plagiarism.org (no date), to plagiarize means to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own or to use (another's production) without crediting the source or to commit literary theft or to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source. In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone else's work and lying about it afterward. According to Barnbaum (no date) plagiarism is mainly five type. These are copy & paste plagiarism, word switch plagiarism, style plagiarism, metaphor plagiarism and idea plagiarism. The reason for plagiarism is mainly the increasing pressure on students arising from paid or part time work, poor management of time, poor planning, heavier course work, pressure from parents for success, competitive pressure to success, cultural difference in learning and presentation style, lack of knowledge about plagiarism etc (Jeremy, no date). Many countries student practice the nature of copying directly from book like Bangladesh, India, and China. And since from the very beginning of their study people do not feel plagiarism as a serious offence, so mostly students ignore the value of avoiding this practice. Moreover, lack of ethical concern is also responsible for
3

plagiarism. Many international students do not even feel that copying or borrowing idea from else without referring is nothing but stealing the intellectual property. Most cases in developed countries like US or UK schools play a vital role to develop the common ethical value. But values and ethics varies from culture to culture, one culture that accepts one behaviour or practice as ethical, another might dishonour that same practice. Piety (2002) argued that some culture appreciate plagiarism as a good thing but at the same time some cultures take a more offensive view about this act. So from culture to culture this varies. Common nature for student is they are blinds to their own academic culture and posses an idea that, they are correct. Students need some time to cope up with new academic rules practice and concepts needs. And due to this many plagiarism act take place, though most cases these are found among the first year students. Different views of writing common knowledge also affect academic works. Language difficulties are another important issue. Due to language inefficiency sometimes students fail to express the idea and take help from different sources. And once more this leads to plagiarised act. Massive growth of information and Internet misuse also lead student for plagiarism. According to Times Online (2008) cited in ukcle.ac.uk ( no date) in the year 2006-07 a survey showed that 707 student was found guilty for plagiarism in Westminster University that was worse ever and 17 student was found at Oxford University. Before the rapid growth of Internet for a potential plagiarist had options such as coping someone else work, copying from library from related books. This was more labour intensive and risk associated with that was obviously high because of limited resources. But in present with the help of various search engine and electronic publications it is easier to just copy and paste someone else work. There are many web sites that contain thousands of works on various topics in various formats for the ease of providing students with quick fix solutions for home works, assignments and term papers. And this practice is becoming profitable day by day and. Though, growth in information technology enhanced the quality of education but at the same time misusing this technology leading student to misconduct as well. To avoid this problem there is certain rules and system in place. The common practice for avoiding plagiarism is paraphrasing, quoting and following known referencing system like Harvard referencing system. In order to demonstrate this concept two example is included here that will further clarify this concept.
4

The following paragraph is taken from University of Portsmouth. Here in this example this will be used as the main text. The automobile revolutionized the American way of life. The earliest significant change was for farming families, who were no longer isolated. The automobile enabled them to drive to towns and cities comfortably and conveniently. Another important change was that people had the freedom to live and work wherever they wanted. In fact, people could work in a busy metropolitan city and drive home to the quiet suburbs. The final major change brought about by the automobile was the building of superhighways, suburbs, huge shopping centres, and many theme parks such as Disney World in Florida. (University of Portsmouth, 2008, page 19). This paragraph will be plagiarised if the idea or partial idea is being copied and the source is not referred. Even by referencing the paragraph could be plagiarised if the paragraph is not paraphrased properly. The following paragraph is plagiarised because of using the exact word copied from the original text. The plagiarised part is underlined for better understanding. The automobile revolutionized the American life style. The first noticeable change was for farming families, who were no longer isolated. The automobile made it easier for them to drive to different locations easily and safely. Automobile brought people the freedom to live and work in their desired places. Moreover, automobiles enable people to enjoy the luxury of working in developed cities and living in quiet country sides. The final major change brought about by the automobile was the building of superhighways, suburbs, huge shopping centres, and many theme parks such as Disney World in Florida. (University of Portsmouth, 2008, page 19). A standard way of paraphrasing the above paragraph is generating the whole idea of the paragraph in own words and finally referring them. Following could be an example of this. According to the University of Portsmouth (2008, p. 19) a massive positive change was brought to the American life style by the automobile. The farming families were the first to adopt the impact of the motor vehicles that connected these rural populations to the cities with less hassle. Moreover citizens were given with the choice of living and working in their convenient places. As a result people had options for employment to
5

urban locations and livings in countryside. Lastly, constriction of massive highways, big shopping malls and theme parks like Disney World in Florida were the ultimate revolution of automobiles. The following paragraph is further written in two different ways, the first one contains plagiarism as the parts are underlined because of poor paraphrasing skill. Later one is a good example of avoiding plagiarism. The accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere due to human activities will change the climate by enhancing the natural greenhouse effect, leading to an increase in the Earths average surface temperature. This warming may be partially offset in certain regions where air pollution leads to high concentrations of small particles in the atmosphere that block sunlight. (Slaght and Pallant, 2004). Green house gases are accumulated in atmosphere resulting green house effect will change the climate which will lead to a raise in the Earths average temperature. It is possible to balance this warming in the regions where air pollution leads to high concentrations of small particles in the atmosphere which block the sunlight. (Slaght and Pallant, 2004) A better example can be: According to Slaght and Pallant (2004) increasing of green house gases in the environment because of our misdeeds will affect the regular weather by speeding the typical greenhouse effect and results higher surface temperature of the Earth. This effect can be equally balanced in areas where air pollution leads to higher concentrations of tiny particles in the environment cause blocking of sun shine. Plagiarism becomes a problem for international student because of the consequences of plagiarism. A single act of plagiarism can led a student to failing in exam, falling in grades, temporary suspension or in more serious cases termination form universities. There is no such prove that international students are more plagiarised in nature than the native English spoken students. But due to the nature of their ethnic background they demand a little bit of more attention and care. There are several measures are in place to avoid and prevent plagiarism. Universities and colleges are more concern about the issue. Appropriate instruction and materials are provided to students to make them aware about plagiarism. Besides a number of software like Turnitin, WordCheck, CopyCatch, Eve2
6

have been developed to detect and avoid plagiarism. Culwin and Lancaster (2001) reviewed that the web-based plagiarism detection services usually able to detect the plagiarised documents submitted, but that the services are too costly for regular institutional use. In addition with cost the process of detecting plagiarism used by these services is sometimes questionable and the results returned to academic staffs are not always helpful. Bull et al (2001) from the perspective of the users rated the web based plagiarism detection services and found Turnitin as the highest ranked and most reliable service. But this service has some limitations, as the algorithm this service use cant judge a given reference as correct or incorrect. Moreover compared with a human brain this system requires far more development. According to Rebecca (2010) new benchmarking system has been introduced by the UK government to determine the tariff of plagiarism. Under this regulation a point based system will determine the tariff of the plagiarism and penalties ranging from informal warning to termination of studentship will be in action to select the appropriate penalty basing on the tariff. It is true that, due to several reason students do plagiarism but international students are the highly affected because of their poor language skill and cultural back ground. To sustain in this competitive market students are now a days more dynamic nature. Globalization allows students to introduce themselves in different environments, cultures and systems. This dynamic nature make student more competitive and the pressure for being success is always high rather than acquiring knowledge. This leads students to the act of plagiarism. Moreover, for the demand of live international students engage themselves in various part time works. And this generates poor time management along with the poor language skill. And because of the ease of information flow they easily misleads towards copying or some unfair practice like plagiarism. Though some not all act of plagiarism is with the deliberate intention of cheating. Diverse ethnic background and previous domestic nature of education results lack of knowledge about plagiarism and many international students is victim of this nature of plagiarised work. Plagiarism is always a serious academic offence whether it is intentional or unintentional. But determining the nature the penalties should be appropriate. Utilising of detection systems along with the campaign of awareness of plagiarism will surely minimize the level of plagiarism. Universities and institutions like . Information Systems Committee Plagiarism Advisory Service (JISCPAS) and The UK Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) need to put

more concern in regulating rules to avoid plagiarism from the very primary stage of higher education.

3. Methodology:

To analyze the Ford Motor marketing strategy all through the report qualitative approach has been followed. All data are being collected through online research from the Internet. 4. Strategy of Ford Motor in Russia: Like the usual global marketing strategy Ford follows the similar approach to Russia. These are as follows: 4.1 One Ford Pathway: This includes restricting promoting other Ford joint venture products like Jaguar, Land Rover and focusing on only Fords own brand like Ford Focus, SUV Explorer etc (Ford Motor Annual Report, 2009). 4.2 Value safety before price: Ford always values safety of their customer on road before anything else. 10

The basic problem with Ford approach is, all their competitors are following almost similar approach in promoting their product. So there is nothing new in their strategy that will give them a different identity 5.2. Fuel inefficient Cars: Ford biggest limitation is the fuel inefficiency of their vehicles. As most of the Ford cars are mid-sized luxury or SUV explorer, so it consumes more fuel. Because of the rising price of oil and gas customers more likely to buy small fuel efficiency cars. Though, they have started marketing small fuel efficient cars in recent days but still their competitors are much ahead than them. 5.3. Low quality product: Another reason is the longevity of the vehicles of Ford is less than their competitors. To remain in competitive market Ford has started manufacturing cars in cheap price but they failed to cope up with the promised quality. 6. Recommendation: Ford has a reliable number of customer and a very strong band value. They can concentrate more on the small cars since due to fuel pricing small fuel efficient cars are becoming demanding day by day. Ford has capability to manufacture environment friendly cars. By manufacturing environment friendly fuel efficient cars they can improve their environment factors (John, 2010) 7. Conclusion: This section contains a brief summary of the full report. 8. Reference: 9. Bibliography: 10. Glossary of Terms: 11. Appendix: 2.3. Thesis statement: Though globalisation has brought in new opportunities to India like greater access to developed country markets and technology, improved productivity and employment but globalisation has also thrown up new challenges like growing inequality across and within
11

nations, cultural deteriorations etc. But regardless of all merits and demerits globalization has brought more positive changes than negative issues in India.
