Are the leaves really green? Is your favourite song really music?

Does the perfume you wear really smell as you think it does? Does your favourite dish taste as delicious as you think it is? Does the cold you experience in the winter mornings really exist? You think already know the answers to all these questions, dont you? Well, do not be so sure. In five minutes, I will introduce you to a previously unexplored, unvisited avenue which will change the way the world perceive around you. Let us analyse one of the greatest paradoxes of physics: The Dual Nature of Light. Two hundred years ago, it was proved that light had a wave nature and the characteristics of a particle. The very idea seemed wonderful at that time, but the two are radically opposite definitions. It is now widely known that Light behaves as a particle or a wave depending on the way you perceive it. It was only later that De Broglie showed that not only light, but all matter exhibits a dual nature. Opposites have now been proved to be inseparable complements. This leads to the very interesting conclusion. Light has no well defined property,it behaves like the world wants it to.Light and Dark are relative- the same phenomenon has multiple connotations depending upon the way we look at it. This world is not made of separate things relatively it is the end product of interactions between seemingly separate ones. Being a particle or a wave is not a property of light, its property is determined by the our interaction with it.Consider an analogy how people react to different music.People listen to a variety of sounds and their preference to a particular class of sound is decided by their basic sense of life.compostion that demand the active alertness required to solve a complex mathematical relationship may not be appreciated by someone who likes monotonous simplicity in their music. Based on how peoples brain functions Any Rand says in The Romantic Manifesto, listeners may experience a feeling of efficacy, or of strain, or of boredom, or of frustration." I can say that your favourite song is just a wave sequence that appears to be music when your ear interacts with it. Many subatomic particles like bosons, leptons and quarks can be traced only by the trails they leave behind in particle accelerators. They came into existence in our knowledge only when we paid attention to certain irregularities in nuclear physics. It was almost like everytime we turned our backs on them they vanished into thin air. Now, let us make an attempt to answer the questions I left you with in the first paragraph, are the leaves realy green? Think about it.How does any colour originate? Light falls on the leaves, they absorb some portion of visible light and reflect the remainder. The remainder in this case is green. Now supposing, the spectrum extends to the infrared region for some species. The leaves are no longer green! They could be yellow, pink, colourless or even some other colour , which the human eye cannot perceive!. This means that it is not the leaves which are green, but the interaction of the human eye which makes them. Colour is an illusion and so is everything else that our eyes show us. Shape, size, depth, distance-everything is an illusion! In the same vein,. Your perfumes smell is your perception of the interaction of the perfume and your nose. Similarly, your favourite dish ,may not be tasty at all to cockroach any other creature. What is cold for you is very hot for a polar bear. Look at the space around you. How many dimensions can you experience? Four, if you include time. However, the String Theory says that there are 10 or 11 dimensions. Keep looking for them. How could there be so many dimensions? It is strange how humans can theorize about something that humans cannot even see. It is being speculated that fish can

experience just two dimensions. Neither humans nor the fish can do anything about it. They are simply machines and are experiencing exactly what they have been programmed to experience by a higher entity. There are as many worlds as there are the number of beings experiencing it. The world I experience is not the same world that the reader must be experiencing. For example, take the case of dressing up in front of a mirror. If your tie is not straight in the mirror, you would straighten it in your world and automatically straightening it in the mirrors world. However, just imagine trying to straighten it in the mirrors world without adjusting anything in your world. We see people changing job after job, sometimes even their profession in the hope that this time it just might click. But nothing changes. Nothing changes because you cannot change anything in the mirror. The change should be brought about within the person starving for a change. The day a change takes place in that direction, eureka! The traits you see in others are actually not theirs, but yours, because the only thing that exists is you and not others. Therefore, the relativity is not a single frame phenomenon, it is the way people perceive it and react to it. Jigyasu Delhi Technical University
