INTERNSHIP REPORT

INTRODUCTION Doing my internship in IDHAYAM Group of Companies was a very fine learning experience. Taking the concept Performance Appraisal of Managers by their respective Supervisors helped me to learn the practical aspect of learning the management of Human Resources as a part of my internship. I also had the chance of undertaking and completing a project survey. In short I gained Knowledge on how to work with a systematic approach. Now I feel content of having completed my project successfully. My whole internship was a wonderful experience and I realized that what we Learn and see is more important than what we Earn. Idhayam has offered such a important experience for me.

COMPANY PROFILE

Established in 1986 An ISO: 9001-2008 Certified Company. Core activity sesame oil production. Company Activities: Sesame oil production and marketing, Mantra groundnut oil production and marketing, marketing of Dots pappads, supplier of Sesame seeds. Manufacturing units at Virudhunagar, Villipathiri and Varalotti. Available in Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, the Gulf Countries and the United States. Production and marketing of groundnut oil from the year 2006. Has plans to introduce it in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh also. NEED FOR THE STUDY

The method of appraisal usually followed in the company is the process of superiors appraising with their sub-ordinates. So this study of what the supervisors feel about their respective department managers is to know more about their synergy between the managers and their supervisors. A good synergy is important for achieving higher targets and productivity. SCOPE FOR THE STUDY

This study helped me to find managers impact on the behaviour of supervisors. It helped to find how effectively the manager is able to manage his team of supervisors. It helped me to find how the performance of the supervisors might get affected due to their relationship with their manager. It also helped to find out the importance of the leadership quality of a manager.
It was useful to find the satisfaction level of the supervisors in their workspace. It also helped to find retention of supervisors because of the managers behaviour.

LIMITATIONS

There was a minor case of lack of support from some supervisors in providing their responses thus resulting in compromise of the data quality. The survey was conducted with supervisors regarding only their department managers and not all the managers in their respective plants.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTIONS The results of the survey done in Idhayam factories show that the supervisors have mostly got good relationships with their managers. This survey has revealed very few drawbacks in the managers of the company. Also the findings show that almost all the supervisors have been frank in answering the questionnaire, though the questions might have been a bit direct concerning their managers behaviors. The findings also show that the workplace synergy in the factories are good and the team effort of all the supervisors is also obviously noted. Thus the final results are that most of the managers have a positive report about their relations with their supervisors and the few drawbacks such as partiality towards some members can be easily corrected.

LEARNING OUTCOME

Through this internship, I realized that academic knowledge is really used practically in the corporate world. I made some mistakes while deciding on what basis to appraise the managers and learnt from them and rectified. Like the fact that if the questions were directly pointed towards their manager then the supervisors might be intimidated at times to give the answer expected from them rather than what they really feel. I also learned how important it is to meet the satisfaction level of the employees and win over their loyalty. There were 3 plants of Idhayam Group of Companies where I undertook my survey and I could see that though the policies were the same in all 3 plants, the synergy in the workspace and the team spirit of the employees was so different for the 3 plants.
