Class Syllabus and Teacher Expectations

Daily Agenda
The daily agenda will be posted on the left hand side of the board each day. The daily agenda will start with Bell Ringer assignment each day. The remainder of the agenda is content that we will be covering in class that day. The agenda is not optional and will be followed daily.

Grading Policy
Grading will be on a points system taking into consideration the difficulty and amount of time given to complete an assignment. A grade of zero is assigned for each missing grade until made up.

Gradebook
We will be using Skyward, an online grading service, this year. I look forward to learning this tool together with you as the year progresses and all the helpful tools it has.

School Appropriate
Throughout this class you will have the opportunity to use your imagination in creating graphics, presentations, and webpages. All work completed in this class must meet the standards of being school appropriate. Anything that you are not allowed to do at school is considered inappropriate for inclusion in projects done in my room. Use common sense. Inappropriate topics include: racists remarks, tobacco, alcohol, sex and items associated with sex, drugs, profanity, violence of any kind (to the school, yourself, other students, teachers, etc.), guns, or anything else that someone might consider offensive. If you have any doubts about the appropriateness of something, please ask. Failure to adhere to the school appropriate standard could result in a zero for the assignment and possible disciplinary action.

Absences
According to your student handbook, students must have an excused absence in order to make up work for credit. It is your responsibly to come to me or check with a classmate to find out what you missed. Assignments, quizzes and projects that are not made up by the end of the 9 week period will result in a zero. I will be in my room most mornings at approximately 7:00am. I can also be available after school with prior notice. I do not assume responsibility for seeing that you complete your makeup work!

Quizzes and Projects

Quizzes will be taken online at a testing website, will be a production assignment, or a combination of the two. Quizzes will be given on the course specific vocabulary you will receive each week. Class projects will include webpages, websites, and other web design related elements. They will challenge you to use the techniques and concepts you are shown to in class. Their difficulty level will increase as the class progresses and we build upon our skills. If you are unsure about a concept or need a little extra explanation please let me know.

My Expectations...
In order for this year to be successful, I am seeking parent/guardian cooperation as well as that of the student. By working together, we can ensure that expectations in discipline and academics remain at the highest possible level. Since communication is an important step in the cooperative process, I would like to make you aware of a few of my expectations. Enter the classroom quietly, check the agenda on the board, and be working on the Bell Ringer before the bell rings. Enjoy your food or drinks outside of the building, if you have one with you, place it on the counter. You might be given permission to visit it sometime during class in a designated area. Do not perform any functions on the computer that you have not been instructed to do so. This includes game playing, viewing inappropriate material, aimlessly surfing websites that do not pertain to our topic. Report missing or damaged equipment at the beginning of class. Pick up and clean up after yourself; do not leave me with your mess. Chairs do not spin, roll around, race, mistreat or do anything other than sit still in them. When I want your attention I expect the entire classes full attention. I am not going to compete with side conversations. Raise your hand if you have a question, I will either come to your computer area or respond in some other way deemed appropriate at that time. I will always dismiss the class, NOT the bell. Once I dismiss you, push your chairs in and leave quietly. Book bags need to be placed under your desk out of the way so that I can freely visit each station. Textbooks - If or when we use them, please take care of them Raise your hand any time you want to get out of your seat Absent? It is your responsibility to find out from me or a classmate what you missed, no matter what the reason for the absence, and get that work made up and turned in to me. Restroom Ask to go, fill out the sign out/in sheet, take the pass, go quickly, and sign back in. Knowing your grade Skyward If you finish early or find yourself with idle time - Find something quiet and constructive to do. Sleeping or talking is not constructive. Games, aimless surfing, and watching videos are definitely not constructive and therefore not allowed. NO EXCEPTIONS!!! Responding to a fire drill/tornado drill - Talking is to stop and wait for me to give you further instruction. Remember, silent evacuations. Using good manners and being respectful - I respect you as an individual and I expect the same treatment in return and to your fellow classmates. Off limit areas in my room - NEVER be in them, without expressed permission from me: my desk area, any student computer I happen to be logged in to, and the cabinets/drawers along the wall Having a bad day? - We all have them, once in a while. If you are having a bad day I need to know before the bell rings, no details are needed, just tell me I am having a bad day today. If I ok it then you have permission to have limited participation in class that day. However, that does not excuse you from the lesson, assignments, or tests that may occur that day. If I can help in anyway let me know, when it is appropriate. What happens if you are caught cheating - Both parties involved will get Zeros for that assignment, their seats will be moved and their parents will be called. Turning in someone elses work as your own or having somebody elses work in your network folder is also considered cheating. The day of a quiz -The Bell Ringer will usually be to review for the quiz for a few minutes then I will ask the class for any last minute questions. Quizzes are taken online. Make up work -I will be available most days before or after school as long as we arrange it first. Arrangements can also be made to check out a book or put files on a CD for you to take home. Consequences for negative actions will include (most of the time in this order) 1) a verbal warning, 2) detention, 3) a discipline referral. Depending on the circumstances of the action an immediate referral may be deemed appropriate. Positive feedback will include (but not limited to) praise, a positive note or call home, whole class reward.
