Who is a Hilarious Giver?

2 Corinthians 9:6-7 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a CHEERFUL giver. The word cheerful in the passage quoted above was really hilaros in the original meaning propitious or merry (hilarious), i.e. prompt or willing:cheerful. Hilarious means causing great merriment. It means to be merry (happy). God loves happy Givers. God loves those who give with joy. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 Amplified Bible (AMP) (Remember) this: he who sows sparingly and grudgingly will also reap sparingly and grudgingly, and he who sows generously [[a]that blessings may come to someone] will also reap generously and with blessings. Let each one [give] as he has made up his own mind and purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion, for God loves (He [b]takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous, prompt to do it) giver [whose heart is in his giving].

This is giving with GLADNESS.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7 Good News Translation (GNT) Remember that the person who plants few seeds will have a small crop; the one who plants many seeds will have a large crop. You should each give, then, as you have decided, not with regret or out of a sense of duty; for God loves the one who gives gladly.

Giving is a part of serving the Lord with GLADNESS.

Numbers 10:10 Also in the day of your GLADNESS, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God. Deuteronomy 28:47 Because thou servedst not the LORD thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things; Psalm 100:2 Serve the LORD with GLADNESS; come before his presence with singing.

Offerings should be one of the most JOYFUL times in the service. We should be joyful, hilarious, and glad Givers. This is the attitude that God loves. This should be taught to believers. Pastors must not be afraid to teach this. This is an important subject. Our attitude towards giving is important. We cannot and should not give with the wrong attitude: GRUDGINGLY.

Laughter associated with giving? How can it be?

This joy is the same experienced by the generous givers of the churches in Macedonia when Paul said of them: And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. Out of the most severe trial, their OVERFLOWING

JOY and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity (2 Corinthians 8:12). The amazing thing about the Macedonian believers was that they were not wealthy, but gave with overflowing joy. Their attitude was pleasing to God, and Paul used them as an example of hilarious giving.
1 Chronicles 29:9 Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the LORD: and David the king also rejoiced with GREAT JOY. Hilarious giving. Thats how King David and the people gave (1 Chr 29:9). The word means more than cheery or cheerful. It was boisterous giving to the point of being rollickingly merry.

1 Chronicles 29:16 O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is ALL THINE OWN. I want to reiterate the truth that God owns everything, and we are his faithful stewards. We should give joyfully and faithfully.

Another way to say this is GIVING ENTHUSIASTICALLY (ZEAL KJV)2 Cor 9:2-3 I know your eagerness to help, and I have been boasting about it to the Macedonians, telling them that since last year you in Achaia were ready to give; and your ENTHUSIASM has stirred most of them to action. 2 Corinthians 9:2-3 GODS WORD Translation (GW)

I know how willing you are to help, and I brag about you to the believers in the province of Macedonia. I tell them, The people of Greece have been ready to send their collection since last year, and your enthusiasm has moved most of them to act. 3Ive sent my coworkers so that when we brag that youre ready, we can back it up.
