Rev Dr Francis P. Xavier SJ Convener

Dr J. Merline Shyla Organizing Secretary

Organized by LOYOLA INSTITUTE OF FRONTIER ENERGY (LIFE) LOYOLA COLLEGE, CHENNAI- 600 034

In collaboration with Loyola-ICAM College of Engineering and Technology (LICET) LOYOLA COLLEGE CAMPUS, CHENNAI-600 034

SCOPE OF THE CONFERENCE Mankind and its anthropogenic activities are responsible for the present state of our environment and the energy crisis. This has had an adverse impact not only on the climate but has led to further devastating effects like food crisis, health insecurity, threat to biodiversity and increase in natural calamities. Scientists are now compelled to look for energy alternatives in order to reduce our dependency on the remaining fossil fuel reserves. In the process, care has to be taken that no further damage is caused to the environment. Renewable energy resources like solar, wind, geothermal and tidal energies are being explored and technological advancements are made day by day in these fields of energy alternatives. However, the challenge arises when such processes leave behind deteriorating residues and by-products which harm the nature further. This is where the term Green energy plays a vital role. Green energy is that energy which is produced in a manner so as to have lesser impact on the environment than the fossil fuels. Green energy also includes architectural design of buildings, light consumption design or any other energy solutions which would reduce negative impact on planet earth. Energy efficiency and conservation are also considered key aspects of green energy as these indirectly contribute to the reduction of global warming and related consequences. Initiatives as simple as regular recycling, usage of renewable energy for heating and cooking at small scales or domestic levels, replacing lighting facilities with CFLs and LEDs will go a long way in the utility of green energy. At the research and technology levels, developing processes which would clean up the existing fossil fuel technology are crucial. This conference aims at discussing such existing green energy solutions and also exploring the possibilities of improvising upon and developing innovative greener solutions. We hope it would serve as a common platform for students, researchers, scientists, economists, environmentalists and all those interested in conservation of nature to voice their opinions on energy conservation and contribute their green ideas to make our planet more sustainable. Objectives 1. To identify green energy solutions and emphasize their role in efficient energy utility. 2. To assess the recent scientific advancements in green energy technologies. 3. To estimate the current availability of energy resources and discuss energy alternatives. 4. To view the present energy scenario from the ethical, legal and scientific perspectives. 5. To deliberate on the responsibility of researchers and scientists to ensure energy security and sustainable development. Areas of Focus 1. Green Energy Solutions for energy efficiency. 2. Alternate/Renewable Energy Resources. 3. The Ethical and Legal perspectives of energy utility. 4. Scientific advancements in Green Energy Technology. 5. Energy Security and Sustainable Development. LANGUAGE The official language of the Conference is English VENUE
