What is a Green Campus?


A green campus is a place where environmentally responsible practice and education go hand in hand and where environmentally responsible tenets are borne out by example It demonstrates its commitment to ecological sustainability through its:

ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
Undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates that have a primary focus on sustainability issues, such as environmental studies, green building, environmental engineering, sustainable development etc. Degrees and courses that incorporate sustainability issues as a core component of their curricula; Study abroad programs that address sustainability in the international context; Informal learning experiences on sustainability topics that target the larger community surrounding the campus.

Projects that seek to enhance and expand our current understanding of ecosystem health, sustainable resource use, air and water quality; Development of applied solutions to large-scale sustainability challenges renewable energy technologies, urban planning, shared resource use;

Set forth a Green Campus Mission and a Statement of Principles Establish a Green Campus organizational structure and a team that is representative of the student body and every campus department Evaluate daily operations in terms of pollution prevention, waste stream management, and energy efficiencyreducing, reusing, recycling, repairing wherever possible.

Determine and document short-term and longterm economic benefits, including the benefits of environmental compliance and improved health and safety Adopt and implement an environmental management system that is similar to those being used by progressive businesses Establish a Green Campus Environmental Ethic Awareness campaign
