1. Explain the working of turbine feed system for liquid propellant rocket motor.
Describe the various components used in this system. [16]
2. What do you understand by burning rate of solid propellant? Explain the various
factors affecting the burning rate in a full-scale rocket motor. [16]
5. (a) Derive the relation between the time and flight path angle for the gravity turn
trajectory of a rocket with constant specific thrust.
(b) Define kick angle, vertical rise time and velocity factor. [10+6]
6. Explain the method of controlling the magnitude of the thrust in solid propellant
rockets. What is the disadvantage of varying throat area? [16]
7. Describe the factors responsible for rocket dispersion and various methods to check
this dispersion. How the effect of thrust misalignment be minimized? [16]
8. What do you mean by thermal protection system? Which types of thermal protec-

1. Sketch a layout of a liquid propellant rocket and show the fuel pump, igniters and
feed lines on it, what is the effect of the injector on the performance of the rocket
engine. [16]
2. Which are the airframe components of a missile; explain the different types of
fore-bodies? [16]
3. (a) Calculate the turn radius and change in the flight path angle for pull up
maneuver of a missile.
(b) What is boost sustain trajectory? How would find range and flight time of
such a trajectory. [8+8]
4. Write the equation for the dynamic longitudinal stability of a missile and by drawing
a sketch, show the induced aerodynamic forces due to pitching motion. [16]

7. For an ideal multistage launch vehicle with several stages discuss the effect on the
ideal mission velocity if the 2nd and 3rd stages are not started immediately but
are allowed to coast for a short period after shutoff and separation of prior stage
before staring of next stage. [16]
8. What properties the material of high pressure vessel should posses? Discuss the
suitability of titanium, steel and aluminium alloys for fabricating the motor case of
rockets. [16]
