1. (a) What are obligatory points? How do they affect road alignment? Explain by
giving suitable sketches wherever needed.
(b) Explain briefly the modified classification of road system in India as per the
Third twenty year road development plan, 1981-2001. [8+8]

2. (a) Derive an expression for finding the extra widening required on horizontal
curves.
(b) Calculate the stopping sight distance for a design speed of 100 kmph. Take
the total reaction time as 2.5 seconds and the coefficient of friction = 0.35.

uses of speed and delay studies.
