learn exactly what you can do with tables. The first pattern (00) is just a C5 with a table that is running through the TSP column. The pattern goes C (00), Eb (03), G (07), Eb (03), G (07), Bb (0A), G (07), Bb (0A), C (0C) with and H at the 9th step (so make it jump back to the beginning). TAutomated is turned off, so it sounds like a complex arpeggio. The second pattern (01) is similar to the first. It is simply a C5 on every ste p and the table set to Automate. This causes the table to advance every tick, j ust like a regular sequence. Now you can hear each step in the table individually. Each step is a different note, even though the pattern is all C5s. This is because the TSP column is cha nging the pitch by the number of half steps you specify (03 is three halfsteps up, therefore it is an Eb/D#). The third (02) shows how you can use tables to link 4 commands into a single ste p. The pattern is still just C5s on every step, but you can see in the CMD colu mn the whole pattern is panned to the left channel. The table is the same as the first one with more effects in t he two CMD columns. These ones act the same way the regular CMD column works (w ith the exception of a few commands). So each step is not only panned to the left (using the original CMD column), but also has some vibrato (V03) in each tone and the pitch is bent ever so slightly higher (P01). And if you try turning off the Automate option you can hear that there is now Pa nning, Pitch Bend, Vibrato AND it is an Arpeggio. Cool, right? And it get's (s lightly) better! The fourth pattern (03) is almost the same as the third (02). The difference no w is the Volume (VOL) column. This column works the same as the Envelope (E) co mmand except it loops through each E command like the rest of the table. We have now added an F8 and a 78 into the first two steps of the VOL column. This means there is an Attack of F whic h decays to 7 before it goes back to F (an 8 in the second digit means no change is made to the original decay in each step). You can now hear how each step is louder and gets quiet really quic kly, making the whole pattern more percussive. So now, if you turn off Automate you have a total of 5 different ef fects at once! And you thought LSDJ was limiting! :-P Of course, this barely scratches the surface of what you can do with tables, but now you should at least have a basic understanding of how you can add complexit y to an otherwise stale track. Also, keep in mind that you dont have to use the same effect in every step. I o nly did that to keep it fairly simple. You could have every single note do some thing completely different every step! The possibilities are endless! You'll never really get it unless you exp eriment with it yourself, but at least now you aren't jumping in head first COMP LETELY blind. Now get out there and experiment!
