HistoryofTAFVA:
Tamil Nadu Federation of Voluntary Agencies established in the year 2004 by V.R.Rajan, Secretary General, TAFVA and other associate NGOs. Our federation is initiated by the consistent efforts of professionally managed voluntary agenciesofTamilNadu. ItoperatesfromChennaiandworksinallthedistrictsofTamilNaduandsupportstheguest states also. TAFVAs firstinitiatives was to create a federationfor the genuinely registered NGOs who work for social causeinTamilNaduandbringthemtogetherforvoluntaryAction.

2004onwards
Right from inception in 2004, TAFVA has been actively engaged in strengthening the development modules, confidence building, resource sharing, knowledge management, policy advocacy, efficacy building and othermeansofsupporttoallitsmembers. TAFVA identified the lack of awareness knowledge on the emerging issues among the voluntary agencies and workedontothespecificissues,whichwillfulfilltheneedsofNGOsandraisingvoicesforNGOstoworkpeacefully forthewelfareofpoorpeople. AtpresentTAFVAreachedto1300NGOsinthedistrictsofTamilNaduandfromotherstatestoworktogetherfor the people welfare. TAFVA is backed indirectly by the active participation of more than 1 Lakh Self Help Groups having a total membership of 15 Lakhs individuals reaching a critical mass of 1 crore population both men and womenthroughouttheStateofTamilNaduinIndia.

1. Generateawarenessamongvoluntaryagenciesabouttheemergingissuesandrightsconcerned. 2. Support voluntary sector in Knowledge Sharing, Capacity Building and Linkage with resources at State, NationalandInternationalinCorporate,PublicandPrivatesectors. 3. LaisonwithState,NationalandInternationalorganizationstosupportandpromotevoluntarismandvoluntary action. 4. Assessandawardtheperformanceofvoluntaryagenciesandencouragethemtoattainsustainablevoluntary action.

5. EstablishStateLevelResourceCentersandensurethattheyareregularlyutilizedbyallVoluntaryAgencies andDonorAgencies. 6. Regularlypublish the State Level Voluntary Actions Disseminate development related information to all voluntaryagencies.

MembershipRenewal Members are advised to renew their membership after the maturity date. Payment can be made either cash / cheque/DDinFavourofTamilNaduFederationofVoluntaryagenciespayableatChennai. TerminationRenewal TAFVAs services may be terminated when Nonpayment of membership fee by due date or within 45 days from maturitydateonly.

We also bring out publications relating to development initiatives in voluntary sector, which we distribute to our membersfromtimetotime.Manyofthemarebasedonintensiveresearchrelevanttothevoluntarysector. NGO FORMATION & SUCCESSFUL MANAGEMENT It is a 765page book published by TAFVA. It contains mattersrightfromformationofanNGOtoRaisingandmanagingabundantfunds.Italsocontainsupdated address anddetailedinformationaboutfundingsourcesbothatNationalandInternationalLevel.

Representation&Lobbying
TAFVA is the authentic voice of the voluntary sector in Tamil Nadu and it lobbies for all voluntary sector matters beforetheCentral&StateGovernments. TAFVAisparticularlyactiveinpresentingvariouspolicies,regulations, pin pointing the constraints and loopholes in the existing policies and advisories. By sharing views and problems, our membershelpusinrepresentingtheirspecificmattersandtheissuesfacingthevoluntary sectormoreeffectivelyto theCentral&StateGovernmentsandtheiragencies.

InformationService
TAFVA also maintain a database on global & Indian voluntary organisations. We also keep information on various aspects of the voluntary sector including sector specific NGOs, academic institutions, consultants and consultancy firmsinvolvedinthevoluntarysector.Suchinformationiscommunicatedtoourmembersgenerallythroughournews magazineandspecificallyonrequestfromotherstakeholders.
