Learning Objectives:
The learning objectives of this course are as follows: To understand data, data types, measurement and its importance in decision making. To develop quantitative thinking in terms of collecting, organizing and presenting relevant data. To learn some of the commonly used statistical tools/ techniques used in decisionmaking. To develop the ability to assess the real life situation and identify the appropriate statistical tools/ techniques. To learn application and interpretation of statistical tools/ techniques through computer software (MS-Excel).
Learning tools:
The course will involve a healthy balance of classroom discussion, problem solving, and cases with the help of following learning tools. Textbook Readings and Exercises Power-point inputs lecture Review and reinforcement Case discussion
Assessment Details
Class Quizzes (10%) Students would be evaluated on their understanding of the concepts discussed in the class, and the applications in real world. They would be quizzes/exercises to solve during tutorials and submit the same for evaluation. Case Analysis (10%) They would be given case studies/research papers to analyze/study and submit the individual assignments based on them for evaluation.

Lab Assignments (10%) Students will be assessed for their understanding of concepts and use of MS Excel to solve real life research problems. They will be required to do these assignments individually and submit the same for evaluation. Mid-Term Test - Multiple Choice & Descriptive (30%) Mid-Term Test-1 will be based on class discussion, lectures, power points, assigned readings and chapters in the textbook. This will be a closed book test based on application based multiple choice questions and descriptive questions. No class notes, textbook or help-sheets should be in your possession or accessed illegally during the test. Any violation will result in disciplinary action. End-Term Test (40%) End-Term Test will be at the end of the trimester and will cover the entire course. This will also be a closed book test based on conceptual and application based real life questions/ problem(s)/ Case(s). No class notes, textbook or help-sheets should be in your possession or accessed illegally during the test. Any violation will result in disciplinary action.
