1.0 Introduction
In this Hands-on Labs session, were going to learn how to install and configure the Linux Ubuntu 11.04 LTS (Natty) Desktop. The Ubuntu now comes with Unity based desktop as opposed to the old classical look and feel. The Unity's indicators, the system's icons comes with controls that enable you to see what's what with your active programs and enable you to work with them. This way you can use an application's functionality without needing to minimize one program and maximize the other. There are some great feature e.g., the ease-of-use that the Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) release has brought with it. One of these changes is the ability to allow the automatic installation of Flash, closed-source drivers, and support for MP3 and other non-free media while installing Ubuntu. The desktop CD allows you to try Ubuntu without changing your computer at all, and an option to install it permanently later. This type of CD is what most people will want to use. You will need at least 256MB of RAM to install from this CD. While for the server, the server install CD allows you to install Ubuntu permanently on a computer for use as a server. It will not install a graphical user interface. Once you have completed the installation you have the option to install the GUI. You also have an option to install it on a Windows system using Wubi. With this approach, you treat Ubuntu just as if it were a Windows application and run it within Windows.

Hands-on Solution:
In this Hands-on Lab session, youll learn how to setup virtual network on VMware (you may also use any other virtual machines like MS VirtualPC, Linux Xen, or VirtualBox from Sun). In this lab session, well concentrate on installing Linux Ubuntu 11.04 LTS Natty Desktop edition, which you can then later use to install any other applications as desired.

Part 1: Install & Configure Linux Ubuntu 11.04 LTS Natty Desktop
Step 1: Getting Started & Hardware Pre-requisites In this Hands-on Labs, its assumed that your target computer is connected to the internet. After installing the operating system, log into your machine and ensure you perform software updates to bring your systems up-to-date.

Step 2: Install Linux Ubuntu 11.04 LTS Natty Desktop 1. Hope over to http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download website and download the Linux Ubuntu 11.04 package which at the time of writing this lab manual was "Ubuntu-11.04-desktopi386.iso"
