THERE ARE TWO CONTROL CHARTS ON EACH SHEET: THE TOP CHART is a graph or the actual individual data points. THE BOTTOM CHART is a graph of the moving range (i.e., the absolute value of the difference between adjacent points).

The MEAN, upper control limit (UCL), and lower control limit (LCL) are all based on only the first few data points. To change the number of data points used in the calculation, enter your value here. If your value is greater than the number of data points then all of the data points will be used.

ControlChart Abbreviated Instructions

What it does

June 10, 2004

By Paul S. Natanson. P.E. Email: paul628@concentric.net Phone: +1-908-630-0406 (9 AM - 9 PM, Eastern USA time) For a more complete set of instructions, see the users' manual that was shipped with this "ControlChart" product.

This product (called "ControlChart") automates the process of building control charts to help determine when a process is out of control and might need to be repaired or recalibrated.

Build a set of control charts

To build or modify set of control charts on the "Chart" sheet Click on the "Modify These Charts" button and follow the instructions. Warning: This replaces the charts presently on the "Chart" sheet. To save them first, click the "Save A Copy Of This Sheet" button.

Highlight a failed control test

The check boxes allow you to turn the control test markers on and off. When a data point fails one of the eight control tests, that data point will be highlighted with a marker to indicated the failed test (if the checkbox for that test is checked).

Change the control limits

The upper and lower control limits are based on the first several data points. You can use the scroll bar (next to the "Number Of "Data Points - - - " box to change the number of data points that are used in the calculation.

Save a set of charts

To save a copy of the charts that are presently on the "Chart" sheet, click on the "Save A Copy Of This Sheet" button.

Modify or update a set of charts

To modify or update a previously saved set of charts, click on the "Modify A Previously Saved Copy" button. The only charts that can be modified or updated are those on the "Chart" sheet. This button copies the selected charts to the "Chart" sheet where they can be modified. To save the charts on the "Chart" sheet before they are replaced, click the "Save A Copy Of This Sheet" button first.

Rename and/or move a previously saved set of charts

To move or rename a sheet containing a previously saved set of charts in the current workbook, click the "Rename And/Or Move A Previously Saved Sheet" button. (To move or copy to or from other workbooks, see the users' manual.)

Delete a previously saved set of charts

To delete a previously saved set of charts, click on the "Delete A Previously Saved Sheet" button.

Show or hide the temporary intermediate data sheet

To show or hide the temporary intermediate data sheet click on the "Show / Hide The Data Sheet" button.

Recovering from mistakes

Although most operations cannot be undone, nothing is really permanent until you save the workbook. To undo a mistake, simply close the workbook without saving it. Additionally, if your "Chart" sheet becomes corrupted, you can click on the "Restore From Template" button to replace the "Chart" sheet with a template that you can use as a starting point for building new charts.

Becoming an authorized (or re-authorized) user

The "License" button allows you to accept the agreement and use the software. If you make changes to the VB code, you might need to click this button to re-accept the agreement.
