July 3, 2011 First Reading: Zechariah 9: 9-10 (Your King Comes) Second Reading: Romans 8: 9, 11-13 (The Spirit Helps) Gospel: Matthew 11: 25-30 (My Yoke is Easy) SHARE THE BURDEN "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest". These words of our Savior seem to be in stark contrast to the previous chapter from the same Gospel, when we were told that if we do not take up our cross-es, we are not worthy of Christ. Connecting these two messages might help us on our faith journeys. Being a follower of Christ surely means that we must embrace the cross, in its mystery of both suffering and triumph. This is something that we need not do alone, for the burden is often too heavy for us to carry by ourselves. Who, then, do we turn to? We can turn to the Body of Christ--the community of disciples gathered for worship. When we find the burden too heavy, let us remember that we can share that burden with our Christian sisters and brothers, who can help bring us rest. QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK 1. When have I been able to see Gods blessings in a situation which is difficult? How can such experiences prepare me to face present troubles in my life? 2. How can I remember that God is with me not only when my life is easy but when I struggle, not only when I am happy but when I am afraid?

3 de Julio del 2011 Primera Lectura: Zacaras 9, 9-10 (Tu Rey Viene) Segunda Lectura: Romanos 8, 9,11-13 (El Espritu Ayuda) Evangelio: Mateo: 11, 25-30 (M Yugo es Suave) COMPARTE LA CARGA "Vengan a m, todos los que estn fatigados y agobiados por la carga, y yo los aliviar" (Mateo 11:28). Esta palabras de nuestro Salvador son un gran contraste con el previo captulo del mismo Evangelio, cuando nos dice que si no cargamos nuestra propia cruz, no somos dignos de Cristo. Relacionar estos dos mensajes puede ayudarnos en nuestro camino de fe. Ser seguidor de Cristo ciertamente significa que debemos abrazar la cruz, en su misterio que es sufrimiento y triunfo a la vez. Es algo que no necesitamos hacer solos, ya que la carga suele ser demasiado pesada para llevarla sin ayuda. A quin volcarnos entonces? Podemos volcarnos al Cuerpo de Cristo, a la comunidad de discpulos reunidos para el culto. Cuando sintamos que la carga es demasiado pesada, recordemos que podemos compartirla con nuestros hermanos y hermanas en Cristo que pueden traernos descanso.

Prayer for a New Bishop

Almighty God, send your Holy Spirit to guide those who will advise the Holy Father in the selection of the next Bishop of the Diocese of Fresno. May he have the zeal of Saint Paul, the priestly gifts of Saint John Vianney, the wisdom of a loving father and brother, and most of all, the heart of your Son, Jesus. We ask that the Blessed Virgin Mary intercede for us, and Saint Therese, our patroness, join us in this prayer, which we make through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

INFANT BAPTISM Regular English Baptisms are held during or after the 10:30 am Mass every Second Sunday of the month. Please bring the childs birth certificate when registering for the required baptism class at the office at least three months before the scheduled baptism. Regular attendance at Mass is required. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS The RCIA is an ongoing process in which adults, youth and children (7 years and older) become full, active, participating members of the Roman Catholic Church. For more information, contact Jessie Avery at 875-8187. MATRIMONY/CONVALIDATION OF CIVIL MARRIAGE Couples wishing to celebrate the sacrament should stop by or call the parish office for a pre-Marriage Registration Form. Couples must give six months or more notice of your intention to marry. Couples need to meet with a priest before setting the date of their wedding. ANOINTING OF THE SICK lease phone the parish office and speak with a priest to schedule the sacrament as soon as you arrange for surgery, prior to entering the hospital or if needed in case of any serious illness or accident. Side by Side

"Come to me, all you who labor" (Matthew 11:28). When we are overburdened, weary, confused, or sick Jesus' invitation is music to our ears, except for a small hitch. Jesus says, "Take my yoke upon you" (Matthew 11:29). How does this give rest to our souls? For generations, farmers have yoked young plough animals alongside experienced ones. The experienced animal trains the other by example. An older and weaker animal may likewise be yoked to one in its prime, so the stronger partner takes on the strain. Jesus invites us to take on his yoke so he can walk with us, helping us to do things his way. He promised never to leave us to "pull" alone. When it all gets too much or we lose our way, he will be there beside us--gentle, humble, but infinitely powerful and wise. At times when we are strong, we in turn can yoke ourselves to someone who needs that extra pull to get to firmer ground.

Compaero de Camino

"Vengan a m, los que van cansados, llevando pesadas cargas y yo los aliviar" (Mateo 11:28). Cuando nos sentimos sobrecargados, cansados, confusos o enfermos la invitacin de Jess nos suena como hermosa meloda. Otras personas parecen sobrellevar mejor las cosas que nosotros y nos preguntamos cul es su secreto. La promesa de encontrar descanso en Jess suena muy dulce, excepto por una pequea coletilla, pues Jess tambin dice: "Carguen con mi yugo" (Mateo 11:29). Cmo puede esto darle descanso a nuestro espritu? Por muchas generaciones, los agricultores han puesto juntos, en una yunta, a un animal joven con otro de ms experiencia. Este ltimo entrena al otro con su ejemplo. Igualmente pueden poner a un animal mayor y ms dbil junto con otro fuerte, para que este ltimo sea el que lleve el peso. Jess nos invita a tomar su yugo a fin de poder caminar junto a nosotros, ayudndonos a hacer las cosas segn su ejemplo. l prometi nunca dejarnos para que tengamos que "tirar" solos de la yunta. Cuando el todo se convierta en demasiado o cuando perdamos el camino, l estar ah junto a nosotros, con su mansedumbre y humildad, pero tambin con su infinito poder y su sabidura. Y en esos momentos en que nos sentimos ms fuertes podemos ponernos en yunta con alguien que necesita un empujoncito para alcanzar una tierra ms firme.

The Diocese of Fresno School of Ministry offers New Wine/Vino Nuevo as a faith and ministry formation program which focuses on parish and community ministry. They are now accepting applications to start a new cohort in September 2011. The deadline to submit your application is Friday, July 29, 2011. NW/VN is a three-year formation program, which seeks to understand the mission of the Church in the midst of the challenges and hopes that our current reality presents. The first year covers topics such as Sacred Scriptures, Sacraments, the Mission and the History of the Church, as well as Human Development. Currently, the program is being offered through teleconferencing sessions throughout the diocese.
