INTRODUCTION
The movement toward low loss transformer is now a worldwide trend. The no-load loss of amorphous metal-based AMT is about that of silicon-steel based SIT. A new amorphous alloy, Metglas 2605HB1 material, has a high saturation induction (Bs=1.65 T) and a high-squareness ratio.

INTRODUCTION
A distribution transformer has been developed using, Metglas 2605HB1 alloy and its characteristics and performance are described. We examined the aging characteristics of the AMTs operated for an extended period of time (~18 years).

CONCLUSION
We have developed a distribution transformer that uses newly developed Metglas 2605HB1. This transformer has the same size as its silicon steel-based counterpart and exhibits the same high energy-efficiency as that of a typical amorphous metal-based unit. We confirmed the long-term reliability of AMTs. We are now planning to install our new AMTs in practical fields in 2009.
