NATIONAL FOREWORD This Indian Standard (Part 1) (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 7388-1: 2007 Tool shanks with 7/24 taper for automatic tool changers - Part 1: Dimensions and designation of shanks of forms A, AD, AF, U, UD and UF issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) will be adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Cutting Tools Sectional Committee and approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council. IS 11173 (Part 1) was originally issued in 1985 as Recommendation for Tool shanks 7/24 taper for numerically controlled machine tools with automatic tool changers (Tool rotating type) Part 1 Tool shanks. In the earlier edition, considerable assistance was taken from ISO 7388-1: 1983 Tool shanks with 7/24 taper for automatic tool changers Shanks of 40- 45 and 50 dimensions. The revised IS 11173 (Part 1) is to be published in two parts, Part 1 and Part 3. This part is being harmonized with ISO 7388-1: 2007 by adoption to make pace with the latest developments taken place at international level. The other part which is identical with ISO 7388-2: 2007 is as under: Doc: PG 32 (1177) Tool shanks with 7/24 taper for automatic tool changers - Part 3: Dimensions and designation of shanks of forms J, JD and JF IS 11173 will consist of three parts under general title Tool shanks with 7/24 taper for automatic tool changers Part 1: Dimensions and designation of shanks of forms A, AD, AF, U, UD and UF Part 2: Retention knobs for shanks of forms AC, AD, AF, UC, UD, UF, JD and JF Part 3: Dimensions and designation of shanks of forms J, JD and JF

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminology and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards: attention is particularly drawn to the following: a) Wherever the words International Standard appear, referring to this standard, they should be read as Indian Standard. b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker. In this adopted standard, reference appears to certain International Standards for which Indian Standards also exist. The corresponding Indian Standards, which are to be substituted in their place, are listed below along with their degree of equivalence for the editions indicated: International Standards ISO 2768-1: 1989 General tolerances Part 1: Tolerances for linear and angular dimensions without individual tolerance indications ISO 2768-2: 1989 General tolerances Part 2: Geometrical tolerances for features without individual tolerance indications Corresponding Indian Standards Degree of Equivalence
