Mr. Alom is a photographer and filmmaker. BELKIS AYN

(b. Havana, 1967, d. 1999) Mrs. Ayn graduated from the 20 de Octubre Elementary Visual Art School (1982), the San Alejandro School of Fine Arts (1986) and the Higher Art Institute in Cuba (1991). She was a professor of engraving at these two important schools from 1993 to 1999. She was the co-curator along with Sandra Ramos and Muddy Abel of The Multiple Print, a collective show of Cuban Contemporary Engraving, as well as the vice-president of the Association of Visual Artists of the National Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC). Her prints, typically made using a collage-like printing technique known as collography, is consistently bound up with an investigation of the Abuku Secret Society, an all-male organization of Afrocuban origin, founded in Cuba in the 1830s. Among the various awards earned are the First Prize of the Biennial of Latin American and Caribbean Engraving (San Juan, Puerto Rico, 1997); the First Prize of the Encounter of Engraving (Provincial Center of Visual Arts and Design, Havana, Cuba, 1993); and the First Prize of the 1e. JOS MANUEL FORS

(b. Havana, 1956) Mr. Fors is a photographer and painter. He graduated from the San Alejandro School of Fine Arts in 1976 and Havana Institute of Museology in 1986. He has worked at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, Cuba. He participated in Volumen Uno, one of the high points of the period that became the name of a group of breakaway artists. His work has been shown in various solo and group exhibitions in Cuba, Venezuela, Japan, France, Belgium, Mexico, Spain and the United States. He was Artist in Residence of the Banff Center for the Arts, Alberta, Canada, and won the Gold Medal at the 49th International Photographic Salon of Japan in 1989. Some of the other awards for his work include the Honorable Mention at the First National Salon of Ecological Art in 1996, the Distinction for National Culture in 1999, and Alejo Carpentier Medal in 2002. He has served on the jury of mayor Cuban art contests. Havana, 1983) Mr. Leyva Novo graduated in 1998 from the Jos Antonio Daz Pelez Experimental Art Center, in 2003 from the San Alejandro School of Fine Arts, and in 2007 from the Chair of Behavior Art directed by Tania Bruguera, all of them in Havana, Cuba. From 2004 to 2008 he attended studies at the Higher Art Institute in Havana, but he did not finish them. She has received scholarships and residencies at various institutions, like the Mattress Factory in Pittsburg, USA (2004), the Fuchu Art Museum in Tokyo, Japan (2003), the Water Mill Foundation, New York, USA, (2003); the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, USA (2002); the Barbican Center in London, United Kingdom (1999); and the Civitella Ranieri Foundation, Italy (1998). He received the Honorary Mention at the 5th Drawing Salon in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 1998; the First Prize of the City Salon, Havana, Cuba, in 1994; and the Second Prize of the 1st Salon of Contemporary Cuban Art, Havana, Cuba, in 1995. He has been Artist in Residence of the APT Studios (London, United Kingdom, 1999), the Fordsburg Artists Studios (Johannesburg, South Africa, 1999), and the Cuban Artists Fund (New York, USA, 2004). His works are part of the collections of the National Museum of Fine Arts, Havana, Cuba; Berini Gallery, Madrid, Spain; Van der Voort Gallery, Ibiza, Spain; MAM Gallery, Douala, Cameroon; BourbonLally Gallery, New York, USA; Cadaques2 Gallery, Barcelona, Spain; Axis Contemporary Art, Calgary, Canada, and several private collections.

Tonel is an independent artist, art critic and curator. He graduated in Art History from the University of Havana in 1982. He taught at the San Francisco Art Institute, California, USA, in 2001, and was a visiting artist/lecturer at the Center for Latin American Studies and at the Department of Art and Art History in Stanford University, California, USA, from 2001 to 2003. His articles and essays on Cuban and Latin American contemporary art have been published regularly in catalogues, magazines and books in Cuba and abroad. His works have
