Baal Urja Rakhshak Dal (BURD)

The Bal Urja Rakshak Dal (BURD), 'teams of child energy guards', program was initiated in 2004-05 by Gujarat Energy Developement Agency (GEDA, Govt. of Gujarat). The objective of the program, now in its fifth year, is to mobilize children as Urja Rakshaks, energy guardians, who will take on - the challenge to motivate responsible, rational, and restrained use of energy in their homes, schools and community by encouraging right and honest energy choices. The program objective is to tap the children's potential as persuasive and powerful agents of change in their immediate community. The young energy guardians reach out to the community to promote best practices in energy conservation, impart knowledge about energy efficient technologies, campaign for renewable energy alternatives, and advocate ethical use of energy. They endeavor to highlight linkages between our present lifestyle: rapid industrialization, urbanization, consumerism and growing energy and resource consumption and its impact on our natural resources, climate and environment. Their credo is 'save energy, save money, save earth'. The program strives to empower Urja Rakshaks with the understanding that the power of change lies with the individual; even small, simple and seemingly insignificant change-encouraging actions, when repeated diligently with tireless consistency, grow into dominant trends that can transform our world with an amazing 'fractal power'. Nisarg Community Science Centre is implementing agency of BURD. We are working in 4 districts Patan, Mehsana, Gandhinagar and Kheda covering 230 primary and 230 secondary schools in BURD project.

Chapter 3. Findings & Conclusion

Our findings are as follows: They want to make people aware about uses of science. They plan their activities purely based on science and technology. They conduct a public health awareness programme. They make aware about the superstition by scientific way. They also do many kind of awareness program through collaboration with other organizations. They conduct many activities for the student like, Sunday science club Model Rocketry Workshops Aero modeling workshops Fun with chemistry Fun with maths and physics Science magic workshops etc.

They also conduct teachers awareness program like Teachers training programs Seminars for teachers Workshop for teachers Ramanujan maths club for teachers, etc.

Conclusions
NGO is active in the wide range of areas including the environment, humanitarians aid education, the social issues, health care research or other endeavors. Activities conducted by NCSC is very necessary to create awareness about science and technology in society.

This kind of activities also creates interest in students and teachers. Social health awareness can also be created by such kind of activities.

SUGGESTIONS
Promotion of the NGO should be made through internet and print media so that they can obtain more fund also. NGO is dependent upon govt. grant, so they should try for private fund also. They should conduct alumina meet once in a year and try to encourage past student to help present students by way of finance, guidance, etc. Various foundations and companies provide funds to such NGOs. They should approach them for gathering of funds. They should approach to companies for the scholarship of the students studying there. They should develop one commercial department where students can work after their successful completion of studies. So that they can become self dependent and live their life like we are.
