Say: There are many directions around us. Directions are given in a form of signs. Some signs tell the names of places. Some signs point the way to places. Other signs give rules for people to follow. Say: Listen to these directions. Do what I tell. First, stand and walk towards the blackboard. Next, write your name and address on the board. Then, walk straight towards the door. Lastly, walk towards the teachers table. Say: Here is another set of directions. Listen and do what I say, First, get a piece of paper and write your name on it. Then write a street sign that means you can cross te street. Lastly, write the direction where people are not allowed to cross. Ask: What did you notice in the way I gave the directions? Expected Answers: There are 4 directions given using First, Next, Then, and Lastly. Ask: What do we call First, Next, Then and Lastly. Expected Answer: They are called signals. Say: If we are giving series of directions, we must use signals to make the directions easy to follow.
