Brief about the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology; Topi, Swabi, NWFP, Pakistan-

29 May 2007 The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology is a leading engineering university in its field in the country and the region. It is a nongovernmental, not-for-profit institute that strives to impart high quality broadbased technical education to the youth of the nation. Most of the land for this scenic Campus was very generously donated by the Government of NWFP and its vast infra-structure and state of the art laboratories were developed with the help of generous donations from the Infaq Foundation and loans from Islamic Development Bank, the OPEC Fund and French Government. The Institute has a distinguished faculty of highly qualified and experienced teachers from within and outside the country. It has an interdisciplinary program with emphasis on basic sciences and mathematics, before students specialize in any one discipline from Computer Science and Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Engineering Sciences, Mechanical Engineering or in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering. Its fully residential campus makes it possible to provide an environment conducive to teaching and learning practically round the clock seven days a week, which helps students not only get quality education and training in our well-equipped laboratories but also help develop their full potential through cocurricular activities, which are organized by more than a dozen student societies. One of these societies, the Literary and Debating Society, won the first ever all Indo-Pak debating competition held in September, 2006 in Delhi. The President, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, who is also the Chancellor of GIKI, very graciously gave an audience to the winning team and encouraged them with generous cash prizes. Participation in and organizing such activities help our students develop

their communication, organizational and managerial skills and as a result our graduates are given preference in the job market. GIK Institute will soon be completing 14 years of its existence as an institution of higher learning. This year degrees will be awarded to 5 PhD, 29 MS graduates of the 5th batch and 190 BS graduates of the 13th batch of the faculties of Computer Science and Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Engineering Sciences, Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgy and Materials Engineering. Many of the graduating students have already got attractive job offers and some of them even more than one offer. They will thus be joining about 1200 BS, more than 100 MS and 6 PhDs of the earlier courses, who now form the backbone of many important public and private sector establishments and multi-national organizations, or pursuing their higher studies in prestigious universities in industrialized countries.
