I. Course Description and Instructional Goals:

Students will master the key concepts of Biology: Vocabulary, Basic Biochemistry, Cellular Biology, Genetics, and Problem Solving. Standards Have been adapted from the South Carolina State Standards for Biology. Applied Biology 1 Biology Standard 1 The student will demonstrate an understanding of how scientific inquiry and technological design, including mathematical analysis, can be used appropriately to pose questions, seek answers, and develop solutions. (Taught Week 1-2 and Throughout Semester) Biology Standard 2 - The student will demonstrate an understanding of the structure and function of cells and their organelles. (Weeks 3-7) Biology Standard 3 The student will demonstrate an understanding of the flow of energy within and between living systems. (Weeks 8-12) Biology Standard 4 The student will demonstrate an understanding of the molecular basis of heredity. (Weeks 13-18) Applied Biology 2 Biology Standard 1-4 concepts will be further integrated. Biology Standard B5 The student will demonstrate an understanding of biological evolution and the diversity of life. Biology Standard B6 The student will demonstrate an understanding of the interrelationships among organisms and the biotic and abiotic components of their environments.

Make-up policy: Students are required to request their makeup work, which will be due in direct accordance to their absences, and must be completed by teacher designated date or the assignments will be considered zero credit. Evaluation method: Assessments will be graded in direct correlation to directions and associated Rubrics.
