1. Competency Appraisal I is a part of the NEW CURRICULUM for nursing students as mandated by the Board of Nursing through the Commission on Higher Education Memorandum Number 14, Series of 2009 (CMO 14, s. 2009). The course credits 3 units which is equivalent to 54 hours lecture time. 2. The subject has the following objective: At the end of the course, given relevant simulated situations involving health promotion, disease prevention, health maintenance, risk reduction, curative and rehabilitative aspects of care for the mother, child and family, population group and community, the student will be able to: 1. apply the nursing process in the care of individuals, families, population group in selected settings. 1.1 assesses client/s condition/health status through data derived from case scenarios (history, physical examination, interpretation of laboratory findings) 1.2 identifies actual and at risk nursing diagnosis 1.3 plans appropriate nursing interventions with client/s and family for identified nursing diagnosis 1.4 Implements plan of care with client/s and family 1.5 evaluates the progress of his/her/their clients condition and outcomes of care 2. ensure a well organized and accurate documentation system 3. utilize bioethical concepts/ principles, core values and nursing standards in the care of clients 4. integrate the various competencies in the various key areas of responsibilities in the care of selected clients. 3. The subject is given to FOURTH YEAR BSN students in their first semester and will basically involve testtaking and rationalization for each given concept. 4. The schedule for COMPETENCY APPRAISAL is 54 hours (3 hours per meeting). Three hours will be consumed both for test- taking and the rationalization of answers. 5. However, as deemed necessary, a schedule for FORMAL REVIEW will be injected during SATURDAY from 8am- 5pm to be organized by the REVIEW INSTITUTION duly approved by the DEAN OF THE DEPARTMENT OF NURSING. Financial transactions will be made personally by the student with the representatives of the review center, as the fee for the FORMAL REVIEW is separate from the fees required by the ECC. 5. The concepts for COMPETENCY APPRAISAL I include: a. THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS OF NURSING b. FUNDAMENTALS OF NURSING PRACTICE c. HEALTH ASSESSMENT d. COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING e.
