Type PM, 550 kV, up to 80 kA Power Circuit Breaker

Standard features - Dead tank design, with each tank containing two serially connected, 2-cycle puffer interrupters (three interrupters for 80 kA) on separate galvanized steel frames - National Board certification of interrupter tanks per the ASME Pressure Vessel and Boiler Code - Certified per ANSI C37.04, C37.06, and C37.09 Standards - Each pole is independently driven by a maintenance-free HMB-8 class spring-hydraulic mechanism - Free standing NEMA-3R steel control cabinet protected with TGIC polyester powdercoat finish - Gas density monitor and pressure gauge directly-mounted to each tank - Porcelain or silicone rubber composite bushings - Continuous current ratings through 4000 A - Pole units, less bushings and support structures, are shipped complete with interrupters, mechanism, current transformers, and CT terminal cabinets - High seismic designs Options and accessories - Condition monitoring with the Circuit Breaker Sentinel (CBS) - Tank heaters for operation in ambient temperatures below -30C - Plug-and-play connectors for control wiring can save 6-8 days installation time - Pre-insertion resistors, 425 ohms per pole, to reduce transients from switching operations

With a large installed base and proven track record, the PM breaker offers unequalled performance and reliability. ABB advantages - Interrupting performance through 63 kA without shunt capacitors for short line fault performance, saves cost and simplifies engineering - High performance interrupters for definite purpose breaker reduce potential for overvoltages caused by restrikes during capacitor bank switching - One-piece, two-break interrupter assembly (three-break at 80 kA) simplifies field change-out whenever end of life is reached by eliminating need for internal tank mounting of separate parts and alignment - Fully-integrated spring-hydraulic operating mechanisms are self lubricating and self-damping. They are also hermetically sealed to the atmosphere, which eliminates corrosion and helps provide maintenance-free performance with long term stability - Externally accessible current transformers enable simple field change-out without degassing breaker and bushing removal - Extensive range of available field services, from technical assistance to turn-key installation, can dramatically reduce construction costs and speed time to commercial operation

HMB-8 mechanism The moving contacts of each pole are driven by a type HMB-8 class spring-hydraulic mechanism. Mechanical energy in each is stored in a stack of compression disk springs and is translated hydraulically to the poles operating shaft. Spring charge is automatically maintained by the operation of a universal motor and hydraulic pump. Each fully -integrated mechanism is self-lubricating, hermetically sealed to the atmosphere and weather protected, affording excellent reliability and long term stability.
