Note: The 2007 and 2008 Skandic SWT V-800 Snowmobiles were previously recalled due to an explosion hazard and a fire hazard were recalled later due to another explosion hazard.

BRP Recalls Snowmobiles Due to Laceration Hazard from Projectiles


The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product. Name of Product: BRP Ski-Doo snowmobiles Units: About 1,500 Manufacturer: Bombardier Recreational Products Inc., of Quebec, Canada and BRP Finland Oy, of Finland. Hazard: The drive pulley bolts on the snowmobiles can break due to oil contamination during the assembly process. This can cause debris to come off the vehicle and act as projectiles, posing a laceration hazard to riders or bystanders. Incidents/Injuries: BRP has received three reports of projectiles flying off of the snowmobiles, including one report of a minor foot injury. Description: The recall involves Ski-Doo model year 2009-2010 SKANDIC SWT V-800 and model year 2010 GSX 1200, GTX 1200, MXZ 1200, and Renegade 1200 Snowmobiles. The model name and number are displayed on the engine compartment and the serial number is on the right side of the vehicle below the seat on the frame. Sold at: Ski-Doo dealerships nationwide from July 2008 through February 2010 for between $8,000 and $9,000. Manufactured in: Canada and Finland Remedy: Consumers should stop using these snowmobiles immediately and contact their local Ski-Doo snowmobile dealer to schedule a free repair. All known owners of the recalled snowmobiles have been directly notified about this recall by mail.
