What is the Master Key? The Master Key develops Mental 0ower which means that others instinctively recogni4e that you are a person o$ $orce# o$ character : it means that you attract things to you; that you are what some people call )lucky)# that )things) come your way( that you have come into an understanding o$ the $undamental laws o$ 1ature# and have put yoursel$ in harmony with them; that you are in tune with 3n$inite; that you understand the law o$ attraction# the 1atural laws o$ growth# and the 0sychological laws on which all advantages in the social and business world rest. Thoughts of courage, power, inspiration, harmony, are substituted for thoughts of failure, despair, lack, limitation and discord# and as these thoughts take root# the physical tissue is changed and the individual sees li$e in a new light# old things have actually passed away# all things have become new# he is born again# this time born o$ the spirit# li$e has a new meaning $or him# he is reconstructed and is $illed with 9oy# con$idence# hope# energy.

PART 1 : The World Within

Harmony in the world within means the ability to control our thoughts, and to determine for ourselves how any experience is to affect us. The world without reflects the circumstances and the conditions of the consciousness within. The world within is the practical world in which the men and women of power generate courage, hope, enthusiasm, confidence, trust and faith, by which they are given the fine intelligence to see the vision and the practical skill to make the vision real.

We are related to the world without by the objective mind. The brain is the organ of this mind. We are related to the world within by the subconscious mind. The solar plexus is the organ of this mind; t is through the subconscious that we are connected with the !niversal "ind and brought into relation with the nfinite constructive forces of the !niverse.

#ring the objective and subjective minds into conscious cooperation and thus coordinate the finite and the infinite. $ur future is entirely within our own control. t is not at the mercy of any capricious or uncertain external power.

The ability of the individual to think is his ability to act on the !niversal and bring it into manifestation. "ind is static energy, thought is dynamic energy % the two phases of the same thing. Thought is therefore the vibratory force formed by converting static mind into dynamic mind.

&very thought therefore is a cause and every condition an effect; for this reason it is absolutely essential that you control your thoughts so as to bring forth only desirable conditions. The world within is the cause, the world without the effect; to change the effect you must change the cause.

'emember that it is in the application alone that the value consists, and that a practical understanding of this law will substitute abundance for poverty, wisdom for ignorance, harmony for discord and freedom for tyranny, and certainly there can be no greater blessing than these from a material and social standpoint.

Exercise: The purpose is of securing control of the physical body. (elect a room where you can be alone and undisturbed; sit erect, comfortably, but do not lounge; let your thoughts roam where they will but

be perfectly still for from fifteen minutes to half an hour; continue this for three or four days or for a week until you secure full control of your physical being.

(o your decision to make food tonight by yourself is the cause and you making food is the effect. )ust be clear on the fact that your thought is the cause. * strong thought is a strong cause and you will see its effect in your life

PART ! "aw of Attraction

<ur difficulties are largely due to confused ideas and ignorance of our true interests# The great task is to discover the laws o$ nature to which we are to ad9ust ourselves. $lear thinking and moral insight are, therefore, of incalculable %alue# -ll processes# even those o$ thought# rest on solid $oundations. $onscious Mind :0erceiving and operating through the $ive physical senses# the conscious mind deals with the impressions and ob9ects o$ the outward li$e. 3t has the $aculty o$ discrimination# carrying with it the responsibility o$ choice. 3t has the power o$ reasoning : whether inductive# deductive# analytical or syllogistic : and this power may be developed to a high degree. 1ot only can it impress other minds# but it can direct the subconscious mind. 3n this way the conscious mind becomes the responsible ruler and guardian o$ the subconscious mind. 3t is this high $unction which can completely reverse conditions in your li$e. &ubconscious Mind The subconscious mind does not engage in the process o$ proving. 3t relies upon the conscious mind# )the watchman at the gate#) to guard it $rom mistaken impressions. &eceiving any suggestions as true# the subconscious mind at once proceeds to act thereon in the whole domain o$ its tremendous $ield o$ work. The conscious mind can suggest either truth or error. 3$ the latter# it is at the cost o$ wide:reaching peril to the whole being. 3t has been $ound that by plainly stating to the subconscious mind certain speci$ic things to be accomplished# $orces are set in operation that lead to the result desired. Here# then# is a source o$ power which places us in touch with <mnipotence. Here in is a deep principle which is well worth our most earnest study. The subconscious mind cannot argue controversially. Hence# i$ it has accepted wrong suggestions# the sure method o$ overcoming them is by the use o$ a strong counter suggestion# $re6uently repeated# which the mind must accept# thus eventually $orming new and healthy habits o$ thought and li$e# $or the subconscious mind is the seat o$ Habit. That which we do over and over becomes mechanical; it is no longer an act o$ 9udgment# but has worn its deep grooves in the subconscious mind. $onscious Thinking 'ut we shall $ind that there is a vast di$$erence between simply thinking# and directing our thought consciously# systematically and constructively; when we do this we place our mind in harmony with the 7niversal Mind# we come in tune with the 3n$inite# we set in operation the mightiest $orce in e8istence# the creative power o$ the 7niversal Mind. This# as everything else# is governed by natural law# and this law is the '"aw of Attraction,' which is that Mind is creative# and will automatically correlate with its ob9ect and bring it into mani$estation. ()ercise! 0urpose is to begin to control your thought. Take the same room# the same chair# and

the same position# i$ possible. 3n some cases it is not convenient to take the same room# in this case simply make the best use o$ such conditions as may be available. 1ow be per$ectly still as be$ore# but inhibit all thought; this will give you control over all thoughts o$ care# worry and $ear# and will enable you to entertain only the kind o$ thoughts you desire. Continue this e8ercise until you gain complete mastery. *uestions= Mind is the master weaver# both o$ the interior garment o$ character and the outer garment o$ circumstance >1. ?hat are some o$ the $unctions o$ the conscious mind@ 3t has the $aculty o$ discrimination; it has the power o$ reasoning; it is the seat o$ the will and may impress the subconscious. >!. Mental Resources (liminate any possible tendency to complain of conditions as they ha%e been, or as they are, because it rests with you to change them and make them what you would like them to be. Birect your e$$ort to a reali4ation o$ the mental resources# 0ersist in this practice until you come to a reali4ation o$ the $act that there can be no $ailure in the accomplishment o$ any proper ob9ect in li$e. ?e have seen that every thought is received by the brain# and sub9ected to our power o$ reasoning. ?hen the ob9ective mind has been satis$ied that the thought is true it is sent to the Solar 0le8us# or the brain o$ the sub9ective mind# to be made into our $lesh# to be brought $orth into the world as reality. The subconscious mind cannot argue; it only acts. 3t accepts the conclusions o$ the ob9ective mind as $inal. &olar Ple)us is the central point of distribution for the energy# the energy is being distributed by %ery real ner%es to all parts of the body, /f this radiation is sufficiently strong the person is called magnetic; 3$ there is any interruption o$ this radiation the sensations are unpleasant# the $low o$ li$e and energy to some part o$ the body is stopped# and this is the cause o$ every ill to the human race# physical# mental or environmental. Thoughts become Things $onscious thought, then, is master of this sun centre $rom which the li$e and energy o$ the entire body $lows and the 6uality o$ the thought which we entertain determines the 6uality o$ the thought which this sun will radiate# and conse6uently will determine the nature o$ the e8perience which will result. -ll we have to do is let our light shine; the more energy we can radiate# the more rapidly shall we be enabled to transmute undesirable conditions into sources o$ pleasure and pro$it. .on2resistant thought e)pands the &olar Ple)us3 Pleasant thought e)pands it3 unpleasant thought contracts it# Thoughts o$ courage# power# con$idence. 3t is this personal devil which makes men $ear the past# the present and the $uture; $ear themselves# their $riends and their enemies; $ear everything and everybody. /nfinite Power and 4ou ?hen you $ind that you are really one with the 3n$inite power# and when you can consciously reali4e this power by a practical demonstration o$ your ability to overcome any adverse condition by the power o$ your thought# you will have nothing to $ear; $ear will have been destroyed and you will have come into possession o$ your birthright. /t is our attitude of mind toward life which determines the e)periences with which we are to meet; i$ we e8pect nothing# we shall have nothing; i$ we demand much# we shall receive the greater portion. The world is harsh only as we $ail to assert ourselves. The criticism o$ the world is bitter only to those who cannot compel room $or their ideas. 3t is $ear o$ this criticism that causes many ideas to $ail to see the light o$ day. 'ut the man who knows that he has a Solar 0le8us will not $ear criticism or anything else; he will be too busy radiating courage# con$idence# and power; he will anticipate success by

his mental attitude; he will pound barriers to pieces# and leap over the chasm o$ doubt and hesitation which $ear places in his path. - knowledge of our ability to consciously radiate health, strength and harmony will bring us into a reali5ation that there is nothing to fear because we are in touch with /nfinite &trength.Mentally concentrate on the ob9ect o$ your desire; when you are concentrating you are impressing the subconscious. This is not the only way# but it is a simple and e$$ective way# and the most direct way# and conse6uently the way in which the best results are secured. unlimited creative power o$ the 7niversal Mind is within control o$ the conscious mind o$ the individual.4ou are simply to say what you desire, not how you are to obtain it# ()ercise ! 3 want you to not only be per$ectly still# and inhibit all thought as $ar as possible# but rela8# let go#0hysical rela8ation is a voluntary e8ercise o$ the will and the e8ercise will be $ound to be o$ great value# as it enables the blood to circulate $reely to and $rom the brain and body. Tensions leads to mental unrest and abnormal mental activity o$ the mind; it produces worry# care# $ear and an8iety. Make this e8ercise as thorough and complete as possible# mentally determine that you will rela8 every muscle and nerve# until you $eel 6uiet and rest$ul and at peace with yoursel$ and the world. The Solar 0le8us will then be ready to $unction and you will be surprised at the result.

Part 6! We are all $onnected

Most people allow their thoughts to dwell on sel$ish purposes# the inevitable result o$ an in$antile mind. ?hen a mind becomes mature# it understands that the germ o$ de$eat is in every sel$ish thought. The trained mind knows that every transaction must bene$it every person who is in any way connected with the transaction# and any attempt to pro$it by the weakness# ignorance or necessity o$ another will inevitably operate to his disadvantage. This is because the individual is a part o$ the 7niversal. - part cannot antagoni4e any other part# but# on the contrary# the wel$are o$ each part depends upon a recognition o$ the interest o$ the whole. 4ou can be,do and ha%e what you want <ne o$ the strongest a$$irmations which you can use $or the purpose o$ strengthening the will and reali4ing your power to accomplish# is# )/ can be what / will to be#) repeat it reali4e who and what this )3) is; try to come into a thorough understanding o$ the true nature o$ the )3); i$ you do# you will become invincible; that is# provided that your ob9ects and purposes are constructive and are there$ore in harmony with the creative principle o$ the 7niverse. /f you make up your mind to do something, do it3 let nothing, no one, interfere3 the '/' in you has determined, the thing is settled3 the die is cast, there is no longer any argument# when you have learned to control yoursel$ you will have $ound the )?orld ?ithin) which controls the world without; you will have become irresistible; men and things will respond to your every wish without any apparent e$$ort on your part. 3$ we wish to be o$ service to others we must have power and more power# but to get it we must give it; we must be o$ service. The more we gi%e the more we shall get; we must become a channel whereby the 7niversal can e8press activity. The -ni%ersal is constantly seeking to e)press itself, to be of ser%ice, and it seeks the channel whereby it can find the greatest acti%ity# the 7niversal cannot e8press through you as long as you are busy with your plans# your own purposes; 6uiet the senses# seek inspiration# $ocus the mental activity on the within# dwell in the consciousness o$ your unity with <mnipotence. The essence and soul o$ all things is spiritual and that the spiritual is the real# because it is the li$e o$ all there is; when the spirit is gone# the li$e is gone; it is dead; it has ceased to e8ist. These mental activities pertain to the world within# to the world o$ cause; and conditions and circumstances which result are the e$$ect. 3t is thus that you become a creator. This is important work# and the higher# lo$tier# grander and more noble ideals which you can conceive# the more important the work will become. ,a%e 7un <ver:work or over:play or over:bodily activity o$ any kind produces conditions o$ mental apathy and stagnation which makes it impossible to do the more important work which results in a reali4ation o$ conscious power. ?e should# there$ore# seek the Silence $re6uently. From this it is evident that in order to e)press power, abundance or any other constructi%e

purpose, the emotions must be called upon to gi%e feeling to the thought so that it will take form# Mental strength is secured in e8actly the same way that physical strength is secured# by e8ercise. ()ercise! -$ter taking your usual position# remove all tension by completely rela8ing# then mentally let go o$ all adverse conditions# such as hatred# anger# worry# 9ealousy# envy# sorrow# trouble or disappointment o$ any kind. The reason that some cannot do this is because they allow themselves to be controlled by the emotions instead o$ by their intellect. 'ut those who will be guided by the intellect will gain the victory. *uestions= >1. ?hat is thought@ Thought is spiritual energy. >!. ?hat is the secret o$ its creative power@ 3t is a spiritual activity. >A. ?hat is the secret o$ 0ower@ Service. >". ?hat is the Silence@ - physical stillness. >C. <$ what value is it@ 3t is the $irst step to sel$:control# sel$:mastery. ?e all are connected. Part 8! Mental ,ouse $leaning

Matter is powerless, passi%e, inert# Mind is force, energy, power# Mind shapes and controls matter.Dou can originate thought# and# since thoughts are creative# you can create $or yoursel$ the things you desire. -t least ninety per cent o$ our mental li$e is subconscious# The subconscious can and will solve any problem $or us i$ we know how to direct it.

The subconscious processes are always at work; ?e are today the result o$ our past thinking# and we shall be what we are thinking today# the .aw o$ -ttraction is bringing to us# not the things we should like# or the things we wish $or# or the things some one else has# but it brings us )our own#) the things which we have created by our thought processes. 3$ either o$ us were building a home $or ourselves# how care$ul we would be in regard to

the plans; how we should study every detail; how we should watch the material and

select only the best o$ everything; and yet how careless we are when it comes to building our Mental ,ome,/f we ha%e stored away nothing but courageous thought# i$ we have been optimistic, positi%e, and have immediately thrown any kind of negati%e thought on the scrap pile# have re$used to have anything to do with it# have re$used to associate with it or become identi$ied with it in any way# what then is the result@ <ur mental material is now o$ the best kind; we can weave any kind o$ material we want; we can use any color we wish; we know that the te8ture is $irm# that the material is solid# that it will not $ade# and we have no $ear# no an8iety concerning the $uture; there is nothing to cover# there are no patches to hide. Mental# moral and physical cleanliness are absolutely indispensable i$ we are to make progress o$ any kind. To gain this estate# three processes are necessary= 1, Dou must earnestly desire it. !, Dou must assert your claim. A, Dou must take possession. The more we gi%e, the more we get# The athlete who wishes to get strong must make use o$ the strength he has# and the more he gives the more he will get. Power is contingent upon a proper use of the power already in our possession; what is true in every $ield o$ endeavor# every e8perience in li$e# is true o$ the power $rom which every other power known among men is begotten :: spiritual power. Part 9! Power of $oncentration

)The greatest good to the greatest number.) ,armony -spiration# desire and harmonious relations constantly and persistently maintained will accomplish results. The greatest hindrance is erroneous and $i8ed ideas. To be in tune with eternal truth we must possess poise and harmony within# 3n order to receive intelligence the receiver must be in tune with the transmitter.Thought is a product o$ Mind and Mind is creative# but this does not mean that the 7niversal will change its modus operandi to suit us or our ideas# but it does mean that we can come into harmonious relationship with the 7niversal# and when we have accomplished this we may ask anything to which we are entitled# and the way will be made plain. Power of $oncentration

Every thought sets the brain cells in action; at first the substance upon which the thought is directed fails to respond, but if the thought is sufficiently refined and concentrated, the substance finally yields and e)presses perfectly# So with the power o$ thought; let power be dissipated by scattering the thought $rom one ob9ect to another# and no result is apparent; but $ocus this power through attention or concentration on any single purpose $or any length o$ time and nothing becomes impossible. Circumstances and environment $ollow the trend o$ mental and spiritual progress; growth follows knowledge3 action follows inspiration3 opportunity follows perception3 always the spiritual first, then the transformation Thought is the process by which we may absorb the Spirit o$ 0ower# and hold the result in our inner consciousness until it becomes a part o$ our ordinary consciousness. The method o$ accomplishing this result by the persistent practice o$ a $ew $undamental principles# as e8plained in this System# is the master key which unlocks the storehouse o$ 7niversal Truth. The two great sources of human suffering at present are bodily disease and mental an)iety# That a man can change himsel$# improve himsel$# re:create himsel$# control his environment# and master his own destiny is the conclusion o$ every mind who is wide:awake to the power o$ right thought in constructive action

()ercise! 3n order to cultivate the power o$ attention# bring a photograph with you to the same seat in the same room in the same position as hereto$ore. E8amine it closely at least ten minutes# note the e8pression o$ the eyes# the $orm o$ the $eatures# the clothing# the way the hair is arranged; in $act# note every detail shown on the photograph care$ully. 1ow cover it and close your eyes and try to see it mentally; i$ you can see every detail per$ectly and can $orm a good mental image o$ the photograph# you are to be congratulated; i$ not# repeat the process until you can. 3t is by such e8ercises as these that you will $inally be able to control your mental moods# your attitude# your consciousness. >1. <$ what value is the power o$ concentration@ 3t is the very highest personal accomplishment which can be ac6uired# and the distinguishing characteristic o$ every success$ul man or woman. >!. ?hy is this so important@ 'ecause it will enable us to control our thoughts# and since thoughts are causes# conditions must be e$$ects; i$ we can control the cause we can also control the e$$ect. >A. ?hat is changing conditions and multiplying results in the ob9ective world@ Men are learning the basic methods o$ constructive thinking.

Master Key &ystem! Part = > /magination

This chapter is all about the importance o$ imagination and the power we command by our imagination. 3t is evident that we are to hate nothing# not even the )bad#) because hatred is destructive.

Success$ul men make it their business to hold ideals o$ the conditions which they wish to reali4e. They constantly hold in mind the ne)t step necessary to the ideal for which they are stri%ing. Thoughts are the materials with which they build# and the imagination is their mental workshop. Mind is the ever:moving $orce with which they secure the persons and circumstance necessary to build their success structure# and imagination is the matri8 in which all great things are $ashioned.

The cultivation o$ the imagination leads to the development o$ the ideal out o$ which your $uture will emerge. Mistakes are the result o$ ignorance. Knowledge is the result o$ man(s ability to think. The ideal held steadily in mind attracts the necessary conditions $or its $ul$illment.

()ercise! Take an ob9ect and $ollow it back to its origination# see o$ what it really consists. 3$ you do this you will develop imagination# insight# perception# and sagacity. These come not by the super$icial observation o$ the multitude# but by a keen analytical observation which sees below the sur$ace.

Take the same position and visuali4e a 'attleship; you know that by $ar the largest part o$ the vessel is under water; you know that the ship is as large and as heavy as a twenty:story skyscraper; you know that there are hundreds o$ men ready to spring to their appointed task instantly; you know that every department is in charge o$ able# trained# skilled o$$icials who have proven themselves competent to take charge o$ this marvelous piece o$ mechanism; you know that although it lies apparently oblivious to everything else# it has eyes which see everything $or miles around# and nothing is permitted to escape its watch$ul vision; you know that while it appears 6uiet# submissive and innocent# it is prepared to hurl a steel pro9ectile weighing thousands o$ pounds at an enemy many miles away; this and much more you can bring to mind with comparatively no e$$ort whatever. 'ut how did the battleship come to be where it is; how did it come into e8istence in the $irst place@ -ll o$ this you want to know i$ you are a care$ul observer.

Follow the great steel plates through the $oundries# see the thousands o$ men employed in their production; go still $urther back# and see the ore as it comes $rom the mine# see it loaded on barges or cars# see it melted and properly treated; go back still $urther and see the architect and engineers who planned the vessel; let the thought carry you back still $urther in order to determine why they planned the vessel; you will see that you are now so $ar back that the vessel is something intangible# it no longer e)ists, it is now only a thought e)isting in the brain of the architect; but $rom where did the order come to plan the vessel@ 0robably $rom the Secretary o$ Be$ense; but probably this vessel was planned long be$ore the war was thought o$# and that Congress had to pass a bill appropriating the money; possibly there was opposition# and speeches $or or against the bill.

?hom do these Congressmen represent@ They represent you and me# so that our line o$ thought begins with the 'attleship and ends with ourselves# and we $ind in the last analysis that our own thought is responsible $or this and many other things# o$ which we seldom think# and a little $urther re$lection will develop the most important $act o$ all and that is# i$ someone had not discovered the law by which this tremendous mass o$ steel and iron could be made to $loat upon the water# instead o$ immediately going to the bottom# the battleship could not have come into e8istence at all.

The time and thought which most people waste in aimless e$$ort would accomplish wonders i$ properly directed with some special ob9ect in view. 7nless you can concentrate upon the ob9ect which you have in view# you will have but a ha4y# indi$$erent# vague# indistinct and blurred outline o$ your ideal and the results will be in accordance with your mental picture. 4ou must first ha%e the knowledge of your power3 second, the courage to dare3 third, the faith to do# The principle which gives the thought the dynamic power to correlate with its ob9ect# and there$ore to master every adverse human e8perience# is the law o$ attraction# which is another name $or love. Thought impregnated with love becomes invincible The mind cannot comprehend an entirely new idea until a corresponding vibratory brain cell has been prepared to receive it. This e8plains why it is so di$$icult $or us to receive or appreciate an entirely new idea; we have no brain cell capable o$ receiving it; we are there$ore incredulous; we do not believe it.
