SPECIFICATION FOR POWER SYSTEM ANALYSIS SOFTWARE 1. GENERAL: 1.

Proposed power system analysis software must be in use by Indian Electricity Boards / Govt./public sector utilities for at least 3 years. 2. The Power System Analysis software to be supplied shall have the capability to perform studies for atleast a 200 bus system and unlimited number of other equipments. There should be provision for upgrading the package to handle more than 200 busses on a later date. 3. The Software shall be capable of performing Load flow studies, short circuit or Fault studies, Relay Co-ordination studies, Transient stability studies. 4. Vendor must have technical support team in India for support in use and maintenance of Software package. 2. BASE MODULE: 1. The software should be windows based with state-of-the-art graphical user interface. It should be user friendly with integrated help and should be compatible with latest Operating systems like Windows XP/Vista. 2. It should have self contained Graphic editor for generation of single line diagrams that does not depend on any other drafting package such as AutoCAD. 3. Software must be based on International standards such as IEEE / ANSI/IEC that are widely acceptable by national and international community. 4. Must have inbuilt library of all major power system equipments like lines, cables, transformers, relays etc. this library must have all the equipments that are widely in use by Indian Utilities and industries. 5. Friendly GUI for entering new equipment into library. 6. User defined reports including MIS information of the system under study. 7. Option to Specify elements as existing or proposed 8. Modeling the system must be flexible. Meaning there must be provision for a) SLD-Database integrated mode for network creation b) Independently draft the SLD using IEC or ANSI symbols c) Data entry using interactive forms without SLD d) Associate any SLD with any database at any point of time e) 9. GUI for creating SLD must have advanced features as in a professional drafting package like AutoCAD. For e.g. layering, panning, zooming, real-time zoom, scaling to fit any paper size (A5 to A0), printing / plotting of full diagram, selected window, current window etc. 10. Graphical display of overstressed devices & alerts

LOAD FLOW STUDIES: 1) The software should support different Solution methods such as Gauss-Seidel, Newton-Raphson and Fast-DeCoupled. 2) The software should have inbuilt with real power, reactive power and both real & reactive power optimization routines. 3) It should support Zone / Area wise modeling &control, islanding. 4) The software after completion of Load flow studies should indicate voltage violations 5) The software should support modeling of loads as constant power, constant current, constant impedance or any combination of these. 6) The software should be capable of determine MVAR Compensation and Contingency analysis ranking. 7) Slack Bus Concept uses Gauss - Seidel, Newton - Raphson, Fast-DeCoupled techniques. 8) The software should be capable of determining Optimal load flow uses FastDeCoupled technique. The different optimisations to be supported are P , Q and P & Q Optimisations. 9) The software should be capable of performing Load flow studies for a)Looped and radial systems, b) Multiple Isolated systems. C)Transmission line opened at one or both sides d) Two and three winding transformers with auto tap, off nominal fixed tap and phase shift. 10) Changing the load model from the given type to impedance type automatically, when the voltage magnitude at load bus goes below specified value to have better and realistic convergence. 4. SHORT CIRCUIT OF FAULT STUDIES: 1) The software to be supplied shall be capable of conducting short circuit studies as per IEC 60909 & IEC 61363 standards.. 2) It should compute fault level for both symmetrical and asymmetrical fault. 3) The software should report post-fault bus voltages, currents and impedances as seen at relay. Besides, it should report fault MVA and current, Peak / crest asymmetrical and symmetrical components at fault busses. 4) The software should have Option of running fault studies taking initial conditions from load flow results or flat-start. 5) This program shall be capable of determining the fault levels for both symmetrical and asymmetrical faults. 6) Computation of fault contributions from adjacent/next adjacent/all buses in the neighborhood of fault and from the user defined nodes shall be possible. 7) The short circuit study should take into account of Transformer vector groups, earthing of transformer and generator neutrals, impedance/admittance of lines/transformers, negative/zero sequence resistance/reactance of generators, negative/zero sequence impedance of loads and zero sequence impedance of series reactors/shunt reactors.

3 8) The software should be able to determine the system stability for various faults/disturbances and study the effects of sudden load / generation variation. 9) The software should support modeling of cyclic loads and different types of synchronous machine besides User defined modeling of loads such as constant power / current / impedance or as any combination of the three. It should have have motor starting analysis inbuilt. It should have built in standard IEEE type voltages regulators, AVR, governors, static VAR compensators, power system stabilizers and support for user defined control system. It should report critical fault clearing time to aid in deciding rating of various equipments. 10) The software should be capable for studying voltage / frequency / df/dt relay responses during transients, machine swing curves at various machines and its states. 11) The software should support simulation of user-specified number of disturbances. The following are the list of disturbances which can be simulated using the software to be supplied: a. Change in transformer parameters (for tripping and reconnecting transformer) b. Change in transmission line parameters (for tripping and reconnecting transmission line) c. Change in real and reactive power of the load. d. Three phase to ground fault. e. Change in number of generator sets. f. Total generation outage. g. Single line to ground fault. h. Loss of excitation 12) The software should support simulation of operation of voltage/current/frequency relays and distance relays. It should support Load modeling according to user-defined load characteristics as a constant power/current/impedance or as a combination of all the three. 5. RELAY COORDINATION STUDIES: 1. The software should have inbuilt library of all widely used relays / fuses in India. 2. It should Co-ordinate overcurrent, earth fault relays and distance relays 3. It should be possible to specify phase and earth relay settings separately. The Fault calculation must be inbuilt in the co-ordination program 4. In over current relay, the software should support entering of instantaneous time for phase and earth relay setting. 5. Primary and backup relay pairs must be automatically generated or should be capable for manual selection. 6. The software should take in to consideration of thermal curve of all equipments, Hot and cold curves. 7. The software should support simulation of relay responses for various current settings of the relays

4 8. The software should support relay co-ordination for radial and interconnected power system networks for over current relays.
