International Climate Champions 2011 Terms and Conditions

GENERAL

Candidates should familiarise with Terms and Conditions thoroughly before deciding to apply Programme open only to Indian citizens, 18-21 years of age Application should be in the required format and only submitted online Applications should have original project ideas Applications should be completed by candidates only Word limits mentioned to be strictly adhered to Applications received after 5 pm on 15 June 2011 will not be considered A successful applicant will be one who can demonstrate an original idea, possess the potential for successfully communicating with others about climate change and encouraging them to take positive steps in coping with the challenges posed by climate change.

PROJECT THEMES (projects should fall into any one of the these themes only) 1. Research and Innovation Projects that involve research on related topics of climate change and environment. Original innovations leading to low carbon products or methodologies/technologies that could be used to mitigate climate change effects. E.g. Vehicles running on renewable energy, eco friendly printers, etc 2. Social Action Projects that uses innovative means to initiate change in the communities and the society. E.g. Use of arts and culture like street theatre, community developments programmes like Waste Management programmes, etc. 3. Education and Awareness Projects targeted at schools, colleges and the local community to raise awareness about climate change and related issues. E.g. Workshops for school children, Institutional programmes, etc. 4. Conservation Projects that focus on the study and conservation of the flora and fauna in a particular ecosystem E.g. conservation of endemic species, biodiversity projects, habitat studies, etc. 5. Digital and Media Projects that use the digital medium, social media or the power of media (journalism) to spread awareness and initiate change in the society. E.g. A website, media workshops, etc THE SELECTION PROCESS
The first level of short listing will be completed by the 20 June 2011 Only shortlisted candidates will be intimated and will move to the second recruitment stage The second stage of recruitment requires the shortlisted candidate to submit a 2 minute video presentation on YouTube outlining the following: o Introducing yourself o Your work in the area of Environment and Climate Change and o Give us an insight into the project you propose to undertake as an International Climate Champion o Make the an interesting video being as creative as possible

International Climate Champions 2010 Terms and Conditions

The videos will be centrally judged by an expert panel and an all India list of 40 finalist will be shortlisted Only shortlisted candidates will be intimated and the list of finalists will be announced on the website by 1 July 2011 The 40 finalists will then be invited to attend a short interview by 8 July 2011 with members of the judging panel. Successful applicants will be chosen at the discretion of the judging panel, whose decision is final. No correspondence will be entertained in this regard. After the final round of interview, 25 International Climate Champions for India will be selected and notified. The names will be announced on the British Council website. AFTER SELECTION
Successful Champions will be required to participate in the ICC programme spread throughout 2011/12 (training, mentoring camps and workshops, meetings, events, etc. This may include networking opportunities to meet with senior Government and international representatives including International Climate Champions from around the world). Champions will be provided opportunities to share and showcase local, regional events to promote action on their projects and represent their peers. Champions will receive project implementation and communication skills training and will be given the opportunity to meet and interact with some of the local and regional leading climate change agencies/ experts to learn more about climate change and its impact. Champions will be required to explore and exploit media opportunities for communicating their projects to wider audiences - radio, newspaper opportunities that arise. Participation could be in the form of radio, newspaper interviews or broadcast appearances. Champions will be required to actively network within the group nationally and internationally. Champions will have to regularly report on activities undertaken and the progress of their projects to their respective Project Managers at the British Council
