BACKGROUND: The U.S. and Los Angeles Chambers of Commerce, in cooperation with the Department of Defense and the Department of Labor, are co-hosting a Hiring Our Heroes hiring fair July 10, 2011, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Sony Pictures Studios, in Los Angeles. This hiring fair is exclusively designed to connect both veterans and military spouses to 21st century job opportunities with nearly 200 Fortune 500 companies. KEY MESSAGES: A Hiring Our Heroes hiring fair will be held on July 10, 2011, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Sony Pictures Studios, in Los Angeles. The companies and corporations participating have been screened to ensure they have the right kind of job and career opportunities for military spouses and veterans. We are engaging our nation's employment leaders with this message: Military spouses are your best choice for your next hire! AUDIENCE: Service members, family members, installation command and staff Federal agencies, corporate and NGO partners STRATEGY: Align use of DoD internal communications and external resources to deliver messages. Use emerging and social media platforms to promote to internal community. Use partnerships with public and private organizations to engage target audiences. A Hiring Our Heroes hiring fair will be held on July 10, 2011, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Sony Pictures Studios, in Los Angeles. Military spouses from the active, National Guard, and Reserve ranks from all Services, including the Coast Guard, are eligible to attend this free event. Register at http://www.regonline.com/Register/Checkin.aspx?EventID=971904 o Select Military Spouse Registration in the drop-down menu. Its first-come, first-served, and only 500 spouses and 1,000 veterans will be permitted to participate in this event. Participating spouses should bring 30 copies of their resume. Those without a resume are invited to visit their local spouse employment specialist, or Military OneSource or call 1-800-342-9647 to speak with a spouse career consultant who can assist with writing a resume. The companies and corporations participating have been screened to ensure they have the right kind of job and career opportunities for military spouses and veterans. Only those companies who have jobs immediately available are being allowed to attend. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce will be following up with these companies to determine how many resumes from military spouses they collected, how many job offers were ultimately made, and how many jobs were accepted by military spouses.
