Developed on the site that once housed the BBCs costume collection, the Costume Store is a new hall of residence exclusively for University of the Arts London students. From September 2012, the hall will have space for 730 students, an art gallery, a learning zone and a common room. The en suite bedrooms will be arranged into flats of five to seven rooms, each sharing a large kitchen and lounge. The hall is located within 3 minutes walk of North Acton station on the Central Line, with several London College of Fashion sites within a 25 minute journey.
Situated in three, 18th-century Grade II listed buildings next to Camberwell College of Arts, Peckham Road Hall will accommodate 155 students in affordable housing right on the Colleges doorstep. The refurbishment of these landmark buildings will create a campus-style education for Camberwell students. The hall will consist of single and twin rooms arranged into shared flats, as well as self-contained studios. The gardens surrounding the buildings will be for the use of resident students.

Your contract
If you accept an offer of accommodation, you will be required to sign a contract. Signing this document means that you agree to adhere to the terms and conditions specified within. Please read your contract carefully. If your hall is managed by or in partnership with University of the Arts London, your contract will be with the University. Once you begin the process to accept your offer online, you will view and digitally sign your contract. If your hall is managed by a Housing Provider, your contract will be directly with them. Your Housing Provider will contact you with more information and your contract. Please note, it can take longer for a Housing Provider to process your application.
Your rent
Advance rent All rooms in halls are subject to an advance rent of 250 (subject to change please see your offer email). This is to secure your room and is payable when you accept your offer. Further information will be provided in your offer email. Weekly rent Weekly rents vary according to the halls of residence and room types (see page 31). In most cases, your rent is paid termly or annually in advance. Your contract will clearly detail how you are to pay your rent. If your hall is managed by or in partnership with the University, you will pay your rent to the University. If your hall is managed by a Housing Provider, you will pay your rent directly to the Provider.
Housing Providers
The University works with several Housing Providers to manage the 12 halls of residence for the exclusive use of the Universitys students. The Housing Providers are: Cordwainers Charitable Trust, Opal Property Group ltd, Sanctuary Management Services and Unite Group plc.
34
35
Step 2: Apply
To apply, you will need to register for an account and complete the online application at www.arts.ac.uk/housing/halls-ofresidence.htm To register and apply, you will need to provide the following details: your student id number (detailed in your course offer) date of birth a valid email address your choice of three halls of residences. Once you have completed and submitted your application, you will receive an automated email response.
Moving in Pack
There are companies that specialise in providing students with the essentials for living in halls, such as bedding, crockery and towels, but also alarm clocks, adaptor plugs and bicycles. They offer a number of different packs to suit various needs. Some companies will deliver your pack to your room, store it during the summer break and ship it to your permanent residence when you have finished with it. www.arts.ac.uk/housing/moving-packs.htm

International students
If you are an international student (from outside the European Economic Area), you are guaranteed a place in the halls of residence for your first year if Housing Services receives your application for accommodation by 1 June 2011. Please note that you do not need guaranteed accommodation to apply for your student visa. As an international student, you may find it cheaper to buy most of your essentials in the UK, instead of shipping them from home. Bear in mind that electrical equipment from your home country may not be suitable for use in the UK. If you do send a shipment from home, you must be in the UK to receive it, as there are no storage facilities in the halls of residence if it arrives before you do. See pages 34 35 of this brochure for more information on the essentials that you will need and the option of purchasing them in advance. Please be aware that both practical and legal aspects of living in accommodation in the UK may be very different from what you are used to at home. Remember that you can ask Housing Services for advice if you are unsure about something for example, if you have questions about your tenancy contract or you need support in adjusting to life with new flatmates. See page 2 for Housing Services contact details.

39
Most people associate halls of residence with student accommodation. However, there are other options available to you if you do not want to live in the Universitys halls or if your contract with a University hall comes to an end. 1 You can rent a room, flat or house from a private landlord and share with other students. OR 2 You can rent a room in a privately-run hall of residence, where students from different universities and colleges live together. If you are unsure about which option to choose, Housing Services will be happy to help you decide. Wherever you want to live, please remember these general rules: London rents are quite high. The more central you live, the higher the rent. If you live further away from Central London, the rent is likely to be less. London is a big city and it is normal to travel on public transport. Very few Londoners live close to where they work or study. If you share a house or flat with others, it will be cheaper than if you live on your own in a studio flat. Having your own bathroom is more expensive than sharing a bathroom with others. Renting a room from a private landlord can be cheaper than renting a room in a privately-run hall of residence. Once you have accepted the accommodation, you have agreed to stay and pay rent until the end of the contract. If you want to move out early, you will need to find a replacement tenant who will cover your rent. Otherwise, you will have to continue to pay rent until your end of your contract. Whatever accommodation you are interested in, it is essential that you view it before you accept. You are the only person who can decide if the accommodation is suitable for you, and if the area and transport links are convenient for your College.
