quickly. Perhaps using $4K this year if you have something special and then
$3k/yr going forward. That would keep you funded for 5 yrs at $3k/yr. After that
you would be back to $1,200/yr.”
c. Stipend amount: $2,000 plus expenses
17. MME Comprehensive Exams. Schedule and Personnel (Matt)

i. A. Research Project (MUS530). With the approval the student’s MME Academic Advisor
the MME Coordinator or Division Chair, a student may elect request to complete a research

area. A student may count the credit hours for this Capstone Option as Music Education
Electives in her/his degree program.
b. Add this revised (3-07-11) phrase: “Given the complexity and challenges involved in completing

25. Doctoral Application and Research Requirements:
a. Masters thesis/Early Research Project for PhD is limiting attractiveness of PhD.
(LB to have emails inquiring about this from persons who ended up not applying.)
b. “Early Research Project” vs “PhD Dissertation Readiness” are there alternatives
to a singular study, i.e. Master thesis (LB). What does College of Ed require?
26. MME Research Opportunities
a. Since MUS533 is not enough background to complete a Research Project or
Thesis for MME, how do MMEs complete a study? Might doc students be
brought in as apprentice advisers, paired with a faculty member, specifically to
put into use the knowledge gained in their research methods class.
FOR FUTURE MEETINGS
27. MME stipulates: 4-credit maximum for applied lessons; 1 cr. max for ensemble. Do we
