Degree or Diploma
We offer a four-year Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology that covers everything
from genetics to bioinformatics. Our diploma programs – Science Laboratory
Technology and Environmental Technology – share a common first year, giving
students an opportunity to evaluate both programs before making a final decision.

Careers in
Applied Sciences
Bachelor of Applied Technology
- Biotechnology
– a four-year Bachelor’s Degree co-op program preparing students for careers
in growth areas of applied biotechnology such as medicine, pharmaceuticals,
nutraceuticals, and in research and development. Studies include molecular biology,
microbiology, virology, toxicology, statistical data analysis and bioinformatics.
Four months of mandatory co-op and four months of optional co-op experience give
students an opportunity to work in business, institutions and research laboratories.

Environmental Technology
– a three-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma co-op program that focuses on
laboratory analysis and field work. You will study biology, gather and study air and
water samples, investigate environmental legislation and the principles of waste
management and meteorology. Graduates work in provincial and federal regulatory
agencies, pollution measurement and control services, research facilities, and
consulting firms.

Science Laboratory
Technology
– a three-year Ontario College Advanced Diploma co-op program
designed for students who are able to focus on detail and enjoy
laboratory analysis. You will be studying biology, physics, and chemistry
with a focus on analysis techniques and procedures. Graduates work in
quality control, research laboratories or product development.

Requirements
*The minimum requirements for admission to all post-secondary programs is an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with courses from the
College (C), University (U), University/College (U/C) or Open (O) stream or equivalent or mature student with the stated academic requirements.
Graduate programs require a College Diploma or University Degree or equivalent. For more information, please visit www.fanshawec.ca.

- Grade 11 Functions (U)

• Grade 11 or Grade 12 Chemistry (C) or (U)
Science Laboratory Technology • Mathematics ONE of:
- Grade 12 Mathematics for College Technology** (C)
- Grade 11 Functions (U)
- Grade 11 Functions and Applications (U/C)
(minimum final grade required is 60)
• Grade 11 or Grade 12 Chemistry (C) or (U)

Four-year Program (Bachelor's Degree)


Bachelor of Applied Technology • Mathematics ONE of:
– Biotechnology - Grade 12 Advanced Functions (U)
- Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors (U)
• Grade 12 Biology (U)
• Grade 12 Chemistry (U)
• Three additional Grade 12 (U) or (U/C) courses
• Final minimum average of 65.0% on six Grade 12 (U) or (U/C) courses which include the prerequisite courses

Note: **Grade 12 Mathematics for College Technology (C) preferred


Applicants who lack required courses may be admitted to the program subject to appropriate prior upgrading
