The Journal of Case Research
About the Journal
Paroksha: The Journal of Case Research is published bi‐annually by T.A. Pai
Management Institute, Manipal. The journal is primarily intended to provide (i) high quality
cases to academicians, trainers and researchers in the field of Management and (ii) the
opportunity to publish and share knowledge about case‐writing, case‐research and case‐
pedagogy in learning and impartation.
A. Background
T.A.Pai Management Institute, popularly known as TAPMI, has been in management
education for over 25 years. The Institute has been frequently ranked among the top 15
management Institutes in the country. TAPMI has been encouraging research and
publications amongst its faculty. Through its innovative summer project module called
Management In Practice (MIP), TAPMI has developed a large number of cases rooted in
the Indian context. These cases are written by the students under the guidance of the
faculty members. Over 200 such management cases have been deposited in European
Case Clearing House (ECCH) Case repository. Also, TAPMI has recently embarked on an
initiative towards bridging the divide between the academia and the industry, under the
banner of TAPMI Centre for Collaborative Learning (TCCL). This is conceived as a
platform for engagement in collaborative research which will combine the rigour of the
academia with the relevance of industry issues and problems. TAPMI believes that the
time is ripe to launch a journal which will serve both as a credible signal of the
intellectual maturity of the institute and as a medium for the dissemination of Indian
management cases for pedagogical use, enhancement of the quality of discussion‐
learning and promotion of qualitative research.
B. Objectives & Scope
The journal addresses the needs of teachers and trainers, whether in academia, industry
or consulting, by providing high quality cases based on field‐research. The cases will be
either decisional or illustrative in nature, presenting vivid and varied perspectives of the
management of business in India which has been drawing global attention of late. The
journal also seeks to promote research of the qualitative genre. Towards this, the
journal shall serve as the platform for the publication of articles and discussions on case‐
research, grounded theory or any ethnographic methodology. All the contributions shall
be double‐blind refereed. The journal will be bi‐annual—two issues in a year.
C. Target Market
There is a significant felt‐need for cases which are anchored in the Indian context and
offer high‐quality learning experience. The potential market for this will cover the full‐
time and part‐time teachers in B‐schools, Commerce & Management Departments of
the numerous colleges affiliated to universities and the Training or Learning &
Development departments of many large and medium corporate. The qualitative
research‐based content will appeal to the research community at large. All in all, the
prospective users of this journal will find the value proposition offered by the journal
quite appealing and attractive. There are over 1500 B‐Schools and 400 universities
offering MBA through numerous affiliated colleges. Thus, the scope for disseminating
one’s ideas and knowledge through this journal is immense.
