I. Course Description:
It is a three- unit course which deals with the fundamental concepts of random variables
and mathematical expectations. Introducing and describing the important features of data and
methods that allows that students to proceed beyond the collected data into the area of decision
making through the generalizations and predictions. This course demonstrates an acceptable
level of mastery of the concepts and applications of an introductory course in statistics, which
may then be applied as encountered in professional activities. It exemplifies the usefulness of
mathematics in decision making.
1. Adopt the term statistics which refers to the science that deals with the collection,
presentation, analysis and interpretation of quantitative data.
2. Understand the process of obtaining the numerical measurement of collecting data,
organize or present data through tables, graphs or charts so that logical and statistical
conclusion can be derived from the collected measurement.
3. Analyze the given data using relevant information from which numerical descriptions are
formulated.
4. Classify and describe group characteristics of data commonly used in descriptive statistics.
5. Gain an insight of mathematical methods which aims to give information about a large
group of data.
6. Develop their expectation about the concepts of probability using notation and probability
theories.
