SCHOLARSHIP WORK ASSIGNMENT (SWA)


SWA is the practice where scholarship students and/or student(s) receiving any form of financial
assistance via UCSI University or funds contributed by UCSI University, are required to involve and
engage in on-the-job training experiences in the assigned Faculty/School/Department and student
development programme & activities.

OBJECTIVE OF SWA
• To enhance the student experience through on-the-job training, development programme &
activities.

• To enhance student’s graduate attributes in term of Effective Communication Skills, Interpersonal


Skills, Leadership & Knowledge of Disciplines.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF STUDENTS IN SWA


• To assist & complete the tasks assigned by supervisor.

• To engage in student development programme & activities.

• To complete the hours due for each SWA.

STRUCTURE OF SWA
(I) General

Student is allocated to Faculty/School/Department to assist the assigned supervisor(s) for technical &
administrative assignment. On the other hand, student is required to participate in student
development programme & activities. Below are the required completion hours for SWA-General.

(II) Will Group

Student takes the role as Will Group facilitator to assist another student(s) in conquering academic
challenges through conducting study sessions. Student is mainly involved in facilitator’s training and
study session. Involvement in student development programme & activities is not compulsory for Will
Group facilitator. Below are the required completion hours for SWA-Will Group.

(III) PASS

Student takes the role as PASS leader to assist another student(s) in conquering academic challenges
specifically in high risk subjects. Student is involved in PASS leader’s training, study session and
assistance in technical & administrative assignment at Centre of Learning Excellence. Involvement in
student development programme & activities is not compulsory for PASS leader. Below are the required
completion hours for SWA-PASS.

OTHERS
1. Internship Notification

• Scholarship student is required to submit a copy of Co-Op Verification Letter to Student Affairs
before the internship begins. (Remark: those students who is entitled for internship in
Jan/May/Sep Semester).

• Co-Op Verification Letter serves as a proven document of exemption from SWA during
internship.

• The verification letter can be requested from CECS Unit at Student Affairs.

2. SWA Completion

• Only eligible for final year student who is taking the subject below during the semester.

• Student is required to fill the Scholarship Completion Form and provides the attachment of
Course Selection Paper Slip. Both scholarship completion Form and the course selection paper
slip have to be verified by the Head of the respective academic programme before submitting to
Student Affairs.

• Student who submits the completed documents will be approved of exemption from SWA.

APPENDIX
1. Categories of Student development programme & activities.

2. The Process of SWA e-stamp Approval

Organizer sends email to SWA Coordinator, Student Affairs (7 working days in advance)

- Title of the event, date & time

- Objective & description of the event

- Staff’s Name for Verification of event’s attendance

* The event MUST be aligned with the objective to enhance student development & learning
experience.

SWA Coordinator approves and sends SWA e-stamp to the organizer

Organizer puts SWA e-stamp on their publicity material (poster/slide)

Scholarship students identify the event which has SWA e-stamp, participate and gain the SWA hours

Verification by organizer

* Organizer is required to identify a staff who is in-charged for the event to do the verification
(signature and name on the scholarship timesheet)
