Where’s Your Treasure?

What’s Important?

Matthew 6:19-21 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth,

where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through
and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither
moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through
nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

It is so easy to get caught up in trying to acquire wealth and

position in this life. A person can lose perspective on what is
important. Jesus said it is almost impossible for a rich person to be
saved.

Matthew 19:23-24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say
unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of
heaven.
24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through
the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom
of God.

Luke 6:24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received
your consolation.

The rich have already received they’re consolation or reward.

Love for earthly wealth robs a person of spiritual wealth. Even if
one does acquire wealth, so often the heart is still empty. Money is
a poor substitute for the rich relationship a man can have with THE
LORD.

Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will
hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one,
and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Mammon means wealth. The things of eternity are so much more
important than the temporal things of the earth. To have our
priorities in the right thing is so important. Am I saying that to
work is not important? No, working for our livelihood is important,
it helps in our discipline and spiritual development. Labor is
honorable and gives worth to money.

Talmudic Saying - Who is a rich man? He, who is happy with his
lot in life.

Colossians 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on

the earth.

Proverbs 15:6 In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but

in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

Proverbs 15:16 Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great
treasure and trouble therewith.

Proverbs 21:20 There is treasure to be desired and oil in the

dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.

Oil in the bible has a symbolic implication, oil means spiritual

understanding, so, oil is in the ‘dwelling’ of the wise. The ultimate
treasure to be desired is an eternal spiritual body and to live with
THE LORD forever in eternity.

Isaiah 33:6 And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of

thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his
treasure.

When a young rich man asked Jesus what must I do to be saved.

Jesus replied.
Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto
him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast,
and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and
come, take up the cross, and follow me.

Notice it says ‘Jesus beholding him loved him’. Jesus showed the
man the ‘narrow way’ that leads to salvation, the invitation was
given, but declined.

Mark 10:22-27 And he (the young rich man) was sad at that
saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples,
How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of
God!
24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus
answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for
them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than
for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among
themselves, Who then can be saved?
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible,
but not with God: for with God all things are possible.

The key phrase being them that trust in riches. Trust in riches is a
false trust. Riches can’t save but can hurt & hinder the soul.

Mark 4:19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of
riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word,
and it becometh unfruitful.

1Timothy 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a
snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in
destruction and perdition.
To put our trust and desires toward earthly riches and wealth
distracts from the things of GOD.

Luke 12:21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not

rich toward God.

Matthew 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the

whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in
exchange for his soul?

1 Timothy 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is

certain we can carry nothing out.

I love how these two scriptures dovetail.

Job 1:21 (Job) said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and
naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath
taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

Naked came I, naked leave I. What do any of us have to offer the

GOD that created the heavens? Answer: Our dedication to HIM.

Matthew 13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure

hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for
joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

THE LORD offers the greatest treasure to be had, eternal life in full
happiness with confidence. What more could anyone desire?

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart
bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil
treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the
abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Our words have impact, be careful what you say!

Luke 12:33 Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves
bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not,
where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

Once a person possesses the treasure, the word of GOD, no one can
ever harm you. They might kill you, but they can never harm you.

Luke 12:34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be
also.

2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that

the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

May THE ALMIGHTY be praised, the congregation said, Amen!
