The Principal,
SCT College of Engineering.

Sir,
A group of five students of our institution is preparing a project titled 'Project Haritha' under
the guidance of Sri. Sivakumar M., Dept. Of Electrical Engineering, as a part of the competition
conducted by Techtop India for innovative projects. We have been selected as one of the contestants
for the competition after we submitted the synopsis of our project. We expect a total budget of
around Rs. 10000 for the completion of the project. Since we are unable to bear the full burden of
the project, we kindly request your good office to allocate some funds for the completion of the
project from the PTA fund. A copy of the synopsis of the project and the names of the group
members are attached herewith.
Expecting a very favourable decision from your side,

Yours faithfully,

Synopsis

Project HARITHA (Hybrid Automated Remote Irrigation TecHnique for Agriculture) is a user friendly
automated solar powered irrigation system which aims at the complete automation of the irrigation of crops
thereby reducing the workload of the farmers. As clearly depicted in the block diagram, the system works on
a solar powered water pump, whose functioning is controlled by the microcontroller, which supplies water to
all the regions of the field after assessing the water level for flood type irrigation and by checking the
moisture level in the ground for normal irrigation system. The water for the irrigation purpose is collected
using rain water harvesting techniques. The rain water is stored in tanks which will be used for the irrigation.
Our project works in two configurations- for flooded type irrigation and for normal irrigation. In the case of
flooded type irrigation, the water level indicating sensors placed at various points in the field detects the
level of water present in the field. If the water level is below the desired level, the water pump is switched on
and water is supplied. Once the desired water level is achieved, the pump is switched off. For normal
irrigation systems, we intend to make use of drip irrigation. The moisture detectors placed at various
positions in the field detect the moisture content in the soil. In case the moisture is low, the area is watered
well. There will be provision in the system to provide fertilisers to the field in case the farmer intends to.
However this is a manual process in which the fertliser should be added to the water tank from which the
field is watered. We also intend to alert the farmer through SMS in case of unforeseen incidents like low
battery levels, improper working of the motor and low water level in the water tank. Please see the attached
block diagram of the proposed project.
