Professional Experience
January 2008 - May 2010 Microsoft Corporation Redmond, WA
Hardware Engineer - Xbox360 Product Engineering Team
In a newly-formed team within the organization, I helped pioneer end-to-end fai
lure investigation and analysis by developing technical debug processes and cons
istent data collection. I then helped scale the organization by leading a local
lab team and international support staff through this failure investigation pro
cess. With the data collected, I analyzed trends, proposed solutions, and summa
rized findings for upper-management reporting.
* Became the team's central contact person with software teams involved with pro
duct development and testing
* Modified manufacturing test suites to bring out intermittent issues and attemp
t to diagnose hardware behavior
* Developed and documented processes for investigating failures and providing ac
curate and precise results
* Investigated customer escalation cases to understand why customer experiences
were not up to standards after game system had been repaired
* Updated and wrote factory repair instructions based on new information learned
during failure investigation

February 2001 - January 2008 International Business Machines Austin, TX

Staff Engineer - Validation, Verification and Characterization
Cell Processor Development
I expanded automated testing efforts to accommodate the growing processor chara
cterization team. This led to greater confidence in understanding product behav
ior while expediting project completion.
* Re-architected lab automation code to facilitate team coding, improve exceptio
n debug ability, and tolerate challenges of a bring-up environment
* Established confidence that automated testing performed overnight without oper
ator interaction was reliable. This lead to more efficient data collection usin
g time that was previously wasted
* Led software team through upgrades of automation system
Power6 Product Development
In collaboration with multiple teams developing a set of servers, I determined
a consistent way to track processor behavior from sub-system assembly to custome
r use. I then developed the software that took the various data sources and con
verted the information into a format which allowed it to be married with the man
ufacturing data warehouse. This enabled data analysts to look at CPU behavior f
rom initial production to customer scenarios.
PowerPC 970 and 750 Processor Development
I joined a larger lab team to continue expanding its capabilities, manage rapid
ly-changing priorities, grow new talent and lead characterization efforts for ne
w products. The cross-functional team I worked with helped my understanding of
where improvements could be made in the lab's testing, while our characterizatio
n influenced the design and manufacturing teams to deliver a quality product to
the customer.
* Engaged with the customer to understand their needs and provide the best quali
ty product
* Managed financial planning, logistics, work flow and process improvement activ
ities in the lab where system characterization was performed including dynamical
ly shifting focus as priorities dictated
* Aided in root-cause investigation of customer processor returns; used custome
r system to characterize processor behavior and test possible causes of errors;
worked with engineers with varied backgrounds to understand internal details of
processor for investigation
* Led characterization efforts for several processor design/technology revisions
using multiple system test platforms
* Mentored college co-op students; helped them understand how the concepts they
learned in school tied into the work we did
Engineer - Product Engineering Team
In my initial role after graduating with my bachelor's degree, I was tasked wit
h taking over an existing characterization lab owned by the product engineering
team and ensure its continued operation. I quickly reengineered the lab to prod
uce more results with greater accuracy and repeatability. I then continued to e
xpand its capabilities to gain more relevant product information and deeper debu
g capabilities.
* Performed system characterization of new processors in leading-edge technology
for understanding and improvement of yield and processes
* Worked closely with design team to investigate erroneous processor behavior, d
etermine root cause and achieve resolution in a timely manner and maintain qual
ification dates
* Learned how to use Teradyne manufacturing test equipment and understand its ro
le in the bring up, validation and characterization phases of processor developm
ent
* Joined understanding of Teradyne and customer system behaviors to help create
effective manufacturing tests for volume production of product
May 2000 - August 2000 Lockheed Martin Moorestown, NJ
Intern
* Worked on phased-array radar modeling program
* Reviewed designs for computer systems, identified and corrected discrepancies

Personal Interests
Outside of work, I enjoy playing piano, producing short films, and writing. I a
lso love traveling to Poland to visit family members that live there.
2006 President, IBM EAGLE at Austin
I presided over the local chapter of an employee-run GLBT organization supported
by IBM. This great opportunity allowed me to further develop my leadership ski
lls as I guided the group through the following activities:
* Involvement in the 2006 Austin Pride parade and festival
* Volunteer activities with local GLBT groups
* Informal discussion including EAGLE members and the senior location executive
overseeing operations of IBM's Austin site
* Cross-company collaboration to bid for Austin to be chosen as the site for Out
and Equal's annual conference
* Panel discussion and informational booth at IBM's annual Diversity Day in Aust
in
* Monthly group discussions
