KBF State Breakout in Tampa:

Thursday, June 23, 4 PM
Make plans now to attend!
Reasons to attend:
renew friendships
learn about events being planned in Kentucky
learn more about Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and how EQ affects your leadership
style
Chris Gambill, in photo at right, of the Center for Congregational Health
will give us a taste of a longer workshop he will lead in Kentucky at our
Spring Gathering in 2012.

Effective leadership has often been associated with high intelligence,

high competency in a field, or possession of special knowledge or
expertise. Research indicates none of these factors are necessarily a
good predictor for leadership excellence. An important, and often
overlooked, factor is a leader's emotional intelligence.

Why do spiritually committed, skilled, and caring congregational leaders

sometimes function poorly as leaders? Clergy and lay leaders do not always think or act as if
emotions play a significant role in important issues such as decision-making, consensus
building, conflict management, or job performance.

Attend the state breakout in Tampa and get a taste of how you can apply emotional
intelligence in the context of church.

2011 Spring Gathering Focuses on Building Community

Partnering and fellowship were
among the main methods
highlighted while developing the
theme of "building community"
during the 2011 Spring Gathering of
the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship.
Breakout workshops explored the
theme in relation to Muslim
neighbors, young preachers, other
Baptists, and the wider church
through the Kentucky Council of
Churches.

KBF's Spring Gathering for 2012 will be held at Georgetown College April 20-21, 2012. Matt
Cook, pastor of Second Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas, will be the featured speaker.

KBF Awards Seminary Scholarship to Andrew Noe

Andrew joined the Buechel Park Baptist staff in August 2010. Previously he
served for five summers for Passport camps in a variety of ministry
positions. Andrew graduated from Georgetown College in 2008 with a major
in Religion and a minor in Communication. He is currently pursuing his
Master of Divinity degree at Baptist Seminary of Kentucky. Andrew lives in
Lexington, KY and enjoys playing basketball, watching movies, anything to
do with superheroes, and eating way too much at church potlucks.

Second Youth Choir Festival A Success

Seven KBF churches sent 35 youth to Louisville during Spring Gathering weekend to
participate in the second Youth Choir Festival. Directed by Dr. John Campbell of Georgetown
College, the choir sung during Saturday's worship at Buechel Park on April 30. Selections
included "O Come, Let Us Sing," "And Can It Be," "Lord, Listen To Your Children Praying,"
and "Seek the Lord."

Baptist Seminary of Kentucky Graduates Four

Four graduates join full-time faculty following BSK's Commencement Exercises on May 14,
2011 in the Anna Ashcraft Ensor Resource Learning Center. Students are (front row, from
left) Kevin Slemp from Berea, Jim Denyes from Louisville, Ally Ioos from Crestwood, and
Melvin LeCompte from Shelbyville. Faculty include (second row, from left) Dr. Mark Medley,
Dr. Dalen Jackson, Dr. John Inscore Essick, and President Greg Earwood.

FBC Frankfort Hosts "Beyond Outreach: Building

Relationships That Matter"

First Baptist Church, Frankfort hosted a workshop for church leaders on May 14.
Bo Prosser, Coordinator for Congregational Life at Cooperative Baptist Fellowship
challenged those in attendance to move beyond program-thinking to missional-
thinking. He used humor, lecture, and small group interaction to help those in
attendance think about ways of having spiritual conversations with people who
don't normally attend church.
